Rattles used in Ceremonies
Turtle Rattle
Turtle rattles were used in healing and other special ceremonies. The neck of a snapping turtle was stretched and dried so it could be used as a handle for the rattle. Cherry pits were placed inside to make noise.
Gourd Rattle
Rattles made from gourds were also used in ceremonies. Corn kernels were put inside dried gourds, then wooden handles were added.
