One day I was at my brother, Stu's, house. There was an ad in the paper..."Female vocalist/keyboardist
wanted for rock band". I was only jokin' about it but he took me seriously and called the number. Since we had been singing
and playing for quite some time, (and he was writing as well), for things like pep assemblies, receptions, and weddings, he thought this would
be a good idea. I'm still shakin' my head... So I went to the audition, (I use the term "audition" very loosely), and got the job. We never actually "played out" because the guy who started
the band was a complete flake... but he knew a guy who knew another guy who came to a
practice to hear me and...
The first real band I was in was called
Due Time
. (I sang lead, played some keyboards and a little sax). We did cover tunes by Romeo Void, The Waitresses, Missing Persons... bands like that. I think still to this day, that this was my all time favorite band... not only to play in, but to
watch and listen to. I had great friends in this one... they gave me my first mike for my
22nd birthday... a Shure SM58. Totally cool gift, huh?
Then all hell broke loose, and I joined The Agents. That was a fun one. No promos were taken, as
people came and went on whims. It was a cool band though because some of the players in it were just
incredible. Rus, the lead guitarist, was as
talented as he
was a pain in the ass.
Then there were assorted others including
Experiment
, Know
Tomorrow, (who I like to refer to as the "Stepford Band"),
15 2nds, and, of course,
Blind Jr.. We used to play around
Montana
at places like Buck's Club, and
Brew's Billiards. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that got to open for acts like Rail, Ronnie Montrose, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Savvoy Brown, Foghat and the Romantics. Yeah, we made the paper a few
times, but then again, Montana ain't as big as it looks.
Blind Jr. was the last band I was in. I can't tell you how much I
miss the music.
