The General Idea

Home

Sorry, I have no degree in the arts. In fact, I have no formal training in art what-so-ever, not even in High School. I have been involving myself in my own artistic development all of my life (self taught). Artistic expression wells up from my soul and bubbles onto medium. The main "style" in which I manifest at this point in time, came about while thinking of an idea concerning how music is viewed. The idea or theory is this: music is not an interpretation of a succession of tones, but an interpretation of the intervals between the different tones (tone-deaf people dont hear notes they hear only noises). The interesting part is that the rule applies to art as well, but the relationship is of forms and spacing. I discovered this a few years ago when I looked at a backround I had painted on canvas (see painting 8), I saw objects that obviously were not meant to be. I realised that art, or more appropriately, the interpretation of art, is more of a personal experience. Keeping this in mind when the viewer is interpreting my art will allow him/her to be suprised by a number of images relatively unnoticed before hand.
