African Women for Women is planning an exciting gala event in Toronto on
June 14. The Most Reverend Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chancellor of the University
of the Western Cape, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and
Nobel Peace Prize recipient will the special guest speaker at the Le Royal
Meridien King Edward Hotel, 37 King Street East, Toronto starting at 6
pm. Sadly this may be Bishop Tutu's last public apprearance in North America
as he is returning to South Africa in August.
No Future Without Forgiveness is presented under the auspices of South African Women for Women, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business, and under the distinguished patronage of the South African High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Andre Jaquet, and South African Women for Women patron Leila MacKenzie, Honourary Consul General of Senegal. Bishop Tutu will share his views on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, on South Africa's transistion to a democratic society and on the wisdom gained through the exposure of injustice, both domestically and within the international arena. The emphasis throughout will be on the realities of forgiveness. He will also address the educational needs in South Af rica and the important role played by the University of Western Cape. Additionally he will focus on Youth Day which is celebrated on June 16. Proceeds from the gala will be dedicated to supporting the University of the Western Cape which is committed to offering quality education to all South Africans.
