Dissertation: GIS on Hayton

The first page is one I discovered many months ago whilst I was researching for my dissertation. I found it by just typing arc info tutorial (which is what I was honestly searching for) into Yahoo. This bypassed the categories section, as there aren't any relative, and took me to the AltaVista list of relative web pages. By this method (and doing the same on Hotbot), there were listed many pages with the title GIS analysis with ARC/INFO. These are all by an Irish GIS research officer called Shane Murnion. He has the same pages mirrored on dozens of sites worldwide - the original one in Belfast University now being defunct. There are pages based in Japan, Brazil, U.S.A., but I've just linked to one of them in Germany. This is a highly useful site that explains alot more than most pages do, which usually just explain what GIS is, or are companies advertising their services. This is an on-line tutorial detailing techniques that are widely used in Arc/Info. Not only that but there are also files that can be downloaded for the tutorial.
A highly useful site is the GISIG site, which is an Italian based group for GIS. On this page there is news about GIS events, but more helpfully there are links to areas where files can be downloaded of any area in the world. For example, from a menu one could choose the UK, and a list of sites where UK GIS information can be downloaded (e.g. Barthomelews, AA). This is a highly useful resource for those using GIS.
The one problem for this subject as it is with all the other modules is that it is very much American orientated, alot more for geology, anthropology and even military applications more in mind.
