Tracking TK's Trail

Brother, you're so right.
TK did do the hippie scene.
The peace and love flower child,
Communal living, taking care of each other,
'Flashing the sign, flying the flag,
a bowl of rice, a mattress in a bare room.'
Yes, they're all his work.
A powerful balance to the Nam was his task,
Stupendously done!

And there's more.
TK dances his way thorough time.
The Charleston and jitterbug,
Poka and samba,
The twist and punker's hop & bump.
Just to name a few,
But the list is long and never ending.
I've seen kids breakdance
On the streets of Lenningrad & Tiananmen Square
I'm sure I saw him
Dancing upon the Berlin Wall.

I've seen his other flags too.
Flapper dresses and zoot suits,
From long ago.
A goateet beatnik,
rainbow colored spiked hair punker.
The subtle ear ring of boys, not girls.
Black leather biker's jacket, colors they're called
And even pack of cigs in a tee shirt sleeve.
A Johnny Rebel cap after the war.
His flags have flown long around the world.

I've heard his words in songs.
American folk, bluegrass, country,
Rock-an-Roll lyrics fifty's and sixty's
Caribbean regie', old black blues,
or any place and time that people
have sang the words of their generation
from their spirit.

The words and phrases the kids use.
Hip-hop talk, beatnik syllables, valley speak.
'tag it', 'cool man', 'totally tubular'.
