This is what he really looks like. Now check out the next one, called "Self Portrait". . . |
Pretty amazing, huh. |
This is from the new comic, MYSTIC FUNNIES. Mr. Natural and Flaky Foont finally return (after Flaky & a friend had Mr. Natural committed ). My wallpaper in this room of MIssissippi John Hurt is from Crumb's Heroes of the Blues collection. The big Crumb resurgence that's going on now has also produced - among other things too numerous to tell you about - the R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book. I prefer the non-mainstream shit more. There's also "Self Loathing" 1 and 2, the comix he's doing from France, with his very talented wife, Aline - these are hilarious. In the first issue, for example, he draws the first half of the book and she draws the second, and they "meet" in the middle. Great stuff. Also check out "DIrty Laundry." All available at Fantagraphics. His daughter Sophie is now doing a comic too - a chip off the old block, with a style very close to his. It's called Belly Button Comix, and they're available available thru Fantagraphics as well. I'll give ya the connection on a crumbled piece of paper before ya go. Don't wanna wait? Jeez, so impatient. Ok, it's fantagraphics.com.
