luis caldeira: the improbable duet
the idea of composing music for small groups is very appealing to me. i find the limits set by such an aproach very stimulating.
the original idea for this improbable duet was suggested to me by steve, an english actor who runs an itinerant theatre group which is mainly settled at the south of portugal. he owns a clarinet and a tenor horn and plays with the local fireman band at the smallest and innermost village in portugal. it was writen after he visited me by the time his second son was born. he never heard the piece, though... the second theme evokes elgar's pomp and circumstance (!), contrasting with the hi ho character of the outer sections.
here's to you, steve.
