Y2K For those of you that are concerned about the Y2K computer problem, I have added this page to keep you updated on the situation. I will have news reports, and I am adding a comments page to get my visitors opinions and comments about Y2K. Humor is part of life, and although I personally feel we have reason for concern, and I dare say, none of us know what the outcome will be in the year 2000, I try to add humor along with my doomsday messages. I will include Y2K jokes, and I've heard some cute ones. Making the jokes is not making light of the situation. I just feel that I might as well laugh, while I can, as my good friend and corrospondent , Carol Bradford advises on Y2K issues that a person can prepare, but can not prevent what may happen. If you hear any good Y2K jokes, please send them to me. Thanks, Sammy Lane Sharp @ TheGossipTable@onelist.com ( Sammy is our Y2K reporter and news hound at the Gossip Pantry)
"The world speaks a common language called digital code, if the connection gets
broken, we're back to the Tower of Babel where we cannot talk to each other. We can't
trade securities. We can't change currency. We can't exchange information. Everything
shuts down." May 3, 1999 at the Software Technology Conference Senate Backs Plan To Curb Y2k Lawsuits Brushing aside a White House veto threat, the Senate Tuesday approved legislation to protect companies against lawsuits stemming from the year 2000 (Y2K) computer glitch My question to the above news report is this. If there is no reason for concern and nothing is going to go wrong, then why will companies need protection from law suits?? News Alert Physicists cannot find reason for the Repeating Millenium phenomenon. They are unable to determine whether 01/01/00 is today, yesterday, or maybe 100 years from now. Albert Einstein's theories on time and space are labeled "lunacy."
Finding Information you will need to know there is a web site that has all sorts of information on it, not only about automobiles but about all sort of appliances that you may find in your home. It's called the Y2K Compliance Database for Consumers <http://www.y2kbase.com/>. This web site is the Web's only comprehensive independent database of Y2K compliance information for consumers. Y2Kbase.com helps consumers answer questions like: 1. What does a company mean when they say they are "Y2K compliant"? 2. What products and services that I own or plan to buy may fail because of Y2K? 3. If the product or service will be affected by Y2K, will it have limited problems or fail completely? The second issue is gasoline. Are you old enough remember sitting in gas lines in the mid seventies? It was very inconvenient and took up an enormous amount of time. One of the biggest Y2K concerns is about the availability of fuel, especially imported fuel. Gasoline is highly explosive and you don't want to store it anywhere near your house! Even if you are storing gasoline for your lawnmower, you don't want to store it in your garage or anywhere where it could get sparked and start a fire. Going without gasoline is a whole lot better than fighting a fire! Third, like most preparations, make sure you do preventive maintenance on your car now instead of waiting. As Karen, one of my corrospondence on y2k has said , one of the biggest risks is in "just in time inventory" for the availability of parts. Many companies are adopting the slogan, "We're OK but we're not sure about everybody else." No one can guarantee their vendors so they leave the possibility of problems still open. What this means is that they can't guarantee they'll get parts when they need them. This is one of those examples when throwing in a monkey wrench like the availability of parts can really bring things to a screeching halt. So, don't despair but take action. If nothing else, make sure your car is in good working order before Y2K hits. Then if there aren't major problems, at least you'll be in good shape for the winter! Remember, like most Y2K preparations, an ounce of prevention can be worth more than a pound of cure.
