                                                           Maligayang Kaarawan
                                                sa doktorang naging Nanay
                                                nung mismong Bagong Taon ng Intsik
                                                sa bagong siglong kasalukuyan!

                                                Ano'ng gandang biyaya
                                                na talagang tugmang-tugma
                                                handog sa doktorang
                                                nagdurugtong-buhay sa madla!

                imperfect yet though it may be

                for all the titles and authors
                of books that ought to be read

                for your outrageous ingenious ideas
                like how to get inside Hidden Valley
                without paying the entrance fee

                for the ultimate in dining pleasure
                        paella at La Tienda
                             the little suman in Nandau
                        halo-halo at New World lobby lounge
                        and even Luk Yuen lugaw

Thank you, too

                for listening to all my stories

                for empathizing with all of my woes

                for you kind words of reassurance
                        "relax, the procedure for hysterectomy is standard,
                         there's nothing to worry about"

                and, very lately,   for the lesson in dying
                like a cat, as Alan related
