-- Old road --
So many years I watched
you change. Well worn
when first we shared.
Over years of travel
I knew your every curve.
Even searched the trails
which led from you
in every way.
Through brambles and old olive trees,
beneath oak and fir,
whispering in rain and wind.
Gracefully you rose over ridges,
through quiet meadows.
Deer briefly look at you
seeing no harm travel
your peaceful way.
One year beneath oak and fir
I camped, and slept
with your permission.
Learned to trust that year.
Listened to song, bird, fox and the rain,
all in the shelter of your curves.
Spring, you woke me with the sun.
Summer heat late night,
warm you slept with me.
Fall again I deserted you
for a warm bed out of the rain.
Forgive me.
A decade gone you've aged
mellowed a bit almost gone
beneath encroaching trees
I walked with you
still loving -- knowing you cared.
