Skanky
skyline
 smogs a cough
 on the city.
Turn on the
 ‘Financial Obsession Channel’
 It’s nine o’ clock.
Time to watch my paper castles teeter-totter.
 It’s a wild ride.
 In and out
 and out and in
 each day,
 I sell to you
what I bought from you yesterday,
 (hopefully for more)
    …and the ups and downs
 and downs and up
 seem so scripted
 like a professional wrestling match,
 screaming “buy” and “sell”
like they were being eaten alive
by sharks.
Greed is like blood in the water.
A crazy man once told me that
when I can’t tell the difference
between a check for a million dollars
 and a scrap of paper
 then I might be free.
 Who’s fooling who?
 Would you take a check?
 (rather than look and see)
 Money’s made of trees
 I laugh,
 and the price we’ve spent
 to give it worth
 costs a soul
 it seems.
 Madness must be catchy.
What I’d pay to value nothing.
Then I might give you my coat,
 or the time of day
 and who knows what more?
