Little Liquid Devil

I used to relish quiet times
And the sense of peace they brought
Silent smiles confirming that we two were one
Now the silence is foreboding
Quiet times carry unease
Warning of the storm that surely is to come

I used to like a bit of noise
A little party now & then
An occasional bout of rowdy happiness
Now the noise is overwhelming
Screaming insults, slurring threats
Nights of fear followed by days of emptiness

That little liquid devil
Is wreaking havoc on your mind
Leaving you a cruel cold fellow
Where you once had been so kind
I want the you that I once knew
But I can't live life in the past
The little liquid devil's got you now
And my hopes are fading fast

I used to ache for night to fall
When we could leave the world behind
And live in our own private world instead
Now I dread the sight of stars
Cause night no longer brings my lover
Darkness leaves me with a stranger in my bed

I've tried to reach you for so long
But my efforts have been in vain
I don't know how to cool the fire of your hell
The liquid devil's got you now
It's taken the man I once loved
Leaving me living with a sharp & bitter shell
