When I got my driver's licence
Daddy gave me a new wallet
And I tucked it away proudly
Into my back pocket
It was uncomfortable at first
Because my blue jeans weren't used to it
But they stretched and faded over time
'Til it was a perfect fit
I started filling it with photos
Of my family and friends
Every picture held a tale
Of time and how life had been then
Chorus
If you're wanting to know
Exactly who I am
Who I've loved and where I come from
Then just hold out your hand
You see, everything I care about
I carry in my wallet
Yeah, I carry my entire life
Right here in my back pocket
In time I had a bunch of photos
Of one girl in particular
My favorite one is right in front
It is our wedding picture
Beside it is our newborn son
The sweetest baby ever
That's a photo full of promise
For the life we'll share together
Bridge
Who knew that such a little thing
Would come to symbolize
The joy that love can bring
What's important in our lives
I carry my friends and family
Inside a leather locket
A part of them is always close to me
Right here in my back pocket
When my son is old enough to drive
I'll give him his own wallet
And he'll take on my tradition
Of carrying life in his back pocket
Repeat Chorus
