To My Dearest Love
by Nandie Bahlmann
In the summer you knew about my love for you.
The flowers bloomed, as my life was coloured in
by the colours of your love,
and yours only.
The flowers grew tall, as did our love.
But, my love, tell me,
now that autumn's coming;
Is our love going to fade
like all the beautiful colours of sweet, sweet summer?
Are you going to leave me
like the leaves leave the trees on which they grow?
Are you going to leave my life
to turn as grey as winter itself?
Tell me, my love:
Will you still love me if winter comes?
And, my love, if winter comes
and you are gone,
Will you bloom again?
Are you going to take your lovely colours
and colour in someone else's heart?
with the colours that belonged to me?
Answer, my love...
Because I love you
like spring loves summer
like autumn loves winter
