A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME Updated 03/28/02

Hi, my name is John Wilson,

Thank you for visiting my home page. I am 47 years old, married with two teenage sons. I live in a small town in southern Arkansas. I'm a disabled veteran, last year I graduated from Southern Arkansas University on a VA scholarship program. I now have a degree in biology education. A by-product of me returning to school is that I found out that I have a little talent for writing. I love to write and I hope that you enjoy my work. I will try to keep putting new stories and poems here as often as I can, so keep checking back to see if there is something you haven't seen.

I work part time at South Arkansas's most powerful country radio station:

I have been a disc jockey off and on for over 20 years and I love it. I can't wait to get to work. I love the attention that I get when I'm on the air, the phone calls from country music fans, and just sitting listening to the music. My wife says that I'm the only person that she knows who goes to work to unwind.

It has been said that what we are is a product of our past, so here is a bit of my history. I grew up on a farm right on the Arkansas/Louisiana line. I went to school for 10 years at Bradley Public Schools in Lafayette County, Arkansas. My junior year we moved to Bossier City, Louisiana where I graduated. It's quite a culture shock to go from a small town to a school where your graduating class has more bodies than the entire population of your home town. After graduation I joined the U.S. Marines. I spent the next six and a half years of my life serving my country. To this day, when anyone asks me to tell him or her a little about myself, I start by saying that I'm a former Marine Sergeant. That fact colors everything about me. You may have noticed that many of my stories deal with life in the service, and being a Vietnam vet. I am proud of my record of service to my country. It's true what you may have heard about the Marine Corps; Once a Marine, always a Marine.

As a result of my attitude of serving and protecting those who can't protect themselves I have become very active it the fight to end violence against women. Last year I read an article about "The Clothesline Project" and knew that it was something that I needed to do to help women who are victims of people that they love. The Clothesline Project gives women an opportunity to express their feelings openly, and I know from personal experience that expressing your feelings is the first step in the healing process. The Clothesline Project also lets women know that they are not alone, and helps to build public awareness of the problems facing women today. You can help, get involved with The Clothesline Project or volunteer to help at your local women's shelter.

Semper Fi.
