How We Spent our Christmas Vacation
Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza is one of the largest and best restored Mayan Cerimonial Centers in the Yucatan. About three hours from Cancun or the same from Merida, it is easly reached with a rental car or regular bus service. Several of the major ruins are so impressive, they rate as once-in-a-lifetime visits.

A view of El Castillo, the most prominate ruin at Chichen Itza, and the best restored pyramid in the Yucatan.

Temple of the Warriors, as seen from the top of El Castillo. This impressive complex is also a challenging climb, unfortunately we were prevented from trying in 1998. The stairs must have sent one to many tourists to quickly to the bottom.

Climbing El Castillo is difficult, but most consider coming down even more so.

Four of our party in front of the Caracol or The Observatory. A very interesting structure used for astronomical calculations. Note that these tourists are looking for monument trees.
