As you might guess there are a lot of hotels in The Yucatan, especially where there are tourists. As true as that seems, when you really need a hotel you'll probably have a hard time finding one. Then finding one that you can afford, or one that is not on the main drag in town, or one that is on the beach or away from the beach, when you start to discriminate, there's less to choose from. What we found runs the spectrum from the Mexican owned economical to the corporation owned rock star affordable.

The Hotel Mission Park Inn Uxmal is not reviewed positively in Lonely Planet's latest edition of Mexico, but we really enjoyed it. The reason we really enjoyed it was they gave us a good rate at around US$40.00 (double) a day. At US$70.00, (double) it might be a bit high. All rooms have a view of the ruins of Uxmal on the hillside about 3 km away. This view is a knockout when you first enter the lobby and figure out what you're looking at. They have a very nice pool, large grounds with at least one parrot caged. The bus tours put in for the night with Europeans, Germans and Italians while we were there. The restaurant is on the lowest level, and the bar is on the roof. The bar has a telescope to view the ruins, but it didn't work very well. It would be possible to bring your binoculars, sit in the bar, view Uxmal, and still be able to say you have thoroughly looked over the Governor's Palace.
