Kabah

Kabah is best reached by rental car from Cancun or Merida, or by special tour. Located in the Puuc Hills region close to Uxmal, it is one of several ceremonial centers in this area. Along with Labna and Sayil, Kabah is best known of the smaller sites. The main two lane road cuts through the ruins. Make sure to visit both areas of the ruins, you don't want to miss the Arch of Kabah which is opposite of the main ruins. This is a wonderful site, and if you get to Uxmal, you don't want to miss Kabah, its less than a half hour away.

The Arch of Kabah

The Arch of Kabah, a sacheob ran from Kabah through this arch to Uxmal, about fifteen kilometers away.

Palace of the Masks

The Palace of the Masks is elaborately decorated with 250 Chak or rain-god masks. There are two cup like depressions on each side of the nose of each mask. These cups could have held oil and a wick, which would have created a dramatic night time scene with five hundred small flames lighting the wall of masks.
