BIGHEAD INSTALLATION
The first thing is you WILL NEED WIN ZIP to open
the file(s)
(Click here if
you don't have it)
The second thing is you NEED TO EXIT VPLACES to install these
patches!!!
Download
Next you need to download the file(s) to your hard drive. You can do this by clicking on the bighead of your choice. When the screen prompts you to save, check "save this program to disk" and click OK ;
Now save the file to somewhere you can remember where you put it. We have a folder specifically for downloads that helps us keep organized.
Installation
To start the installation you need to unzip the file. We suggest you unzip it to your vplaces folder.
You will need to run the application's EXE file. To start the
installation find and double-click the file.
You will be prompted with a creator screen...select next...then
an installation folder...note you need to point to the directory
where the games folder will be...C:\Program
Files\Vplaces\Games....If this folder doesn't exist you will be
prompted to create it...select YES..
The program will install itself...If you get prompted to over
write existing files select YES or YES TO ALL...You will then get
prompted the installation was successfull..
HOW TO
USE
When you are done successfully installing the
BigHead patches, you can Run vplaces..once you are in a room you
can start the Bighead program by either selecting the games
option on your top tool bar or right click your avatar. Select
start a game...then choose which BigHead (game) from the Game
Menu you want to use..(If you get prompted that there are no
games you have not installed it correctly...EXIT VPLACES and go
back to the installation section to READ and INSTALL the BIGHEAD
PATCH again)...
You will will be prompted with your user name...you can change
this to anything you want...then select OK...Next you will be
prompted with a game board....You can shut off the games features
by clicking on music, SFX and GFX in the bottom right corner of
the game picture.. Then click on CHAT ROOM TAG on the bottom left
of you VPLACES SCREEN..
To move your BIGHEAD AV around the room you need to point your
mouse on the very top left corner of your AV..We have found this
to be an art...Sometimes it takes some practice to get it
right..You know you have it when your Full Name Tag appears that
you edited for the game..Drag your AV wherever you like...
One last note...You need to install the BIG AV PATCH to see your
megas in your gallery...Also some of these patches will vary
installations from computer to computer....
VP SOFTWARE INFORMATION
(OK ...
so you want to use the older versions of VP ... well ... I use it
and prefer it for my own set-up ... here's the pluses and minuses
of this software (as I see it) :
1) - There is no "All Places" feature in the "Quick Directory" in the #1, Older Version of Vp ... you're stuck with only the "Cool Places" directory ... that is ... just Excite rooms will be listed here ...
2) -
Some "add-on" programs (room busters etc.) designed for
the current VP version may not run with these older versions.
3) - The #1, Older Version is fully "patchable" (ie. bigfile/mega/bubbletime).
4) -
When you open the software (either version) ... it will attempt
to connect to the default "community server" ... which
... has gone the way of the Dodo .... so .... you have to
reconfigure it ... ok ... I'll tell you how ... read below
5) -
However, the Older VP version will not run with IE4.
CONFIGURING THE SERVER
When the software opens
and tries to connect ... you'll get a pop-up on the screen which
will tell you that the "server is down" ... well ...
thats no lie ... it is ...gone .. history ... so ... you have to
have it connect to the existing VP server ... and you do this as
follows ...
Go to the Tool Bar (top of the screen ... click on
"Tools" ... then ... "Community Server" ...
delete whatever is written in the "Community Server"
box ... and type in:
Excite Talk!
Then ... delete whatever is written in the "Server
Address" box ... and type in:
talk.excite.com
Click on the "Add" button (bottom right of the box) ...
then click on "Set Default" .... then if the server you
entered is highlighted ... click on the "connect"
button ... and you will connect to Excite .... Happy Chatting ..
