Our household makes major decisions by consensus, and does event planning following the organizational principles of a troupe of Old World monkeys: the leader is whomever jumps in front of the parade. Woe be unto you if you misjudge which way the parade is headed, for you will march alone!
Our children are also members of the Nameless Clan. Are you wondering about how your children will "fit" in the SCA? Here's a note on that subject I wrote back when my daughter was 7 1/2. It still holds true; when I ask her what her favorite part of Pennsic is, she says "all of it."
How many of those kids running around are ours? They keep coming and coming. We've done our part to assure continuation of the SCA, with one baby every six months for several years! Right now, we have Ariana, Kindra the Brave (the World's Best Kid (TM)), Athena, Caitlin Honor, Cynthia, Taylor Autumn, Isabella Dawn
, Sasha Rose, Gabriel, Madison, Skyler, Wilder, and Jamie. Feel for Gabe and Wilder, with all those older sisters!
Here's a picture of Kindra in her 1997 Halloween costume... she decided to be a Blackfoot Indian. If I never cut another piece of fringe (or at least not for a while) after this, that'll be okay.
If you're looking for us after dark, and we aren't making a ruckus in our own camp, look for us at the bar of our favorite pub.
When we aren't part of the problem, we're frequently found being part of the solution. During the day, look for us under the Chirurgeon's banner. We are rather active in the Chirurgeonate, with 2 master chirurgeons and at least four journeymen among our 12 adult members. I got my "racing stripes"on the last Friday of Pennsic XXVII. I was pleased speechless and scared sh... well, let's leave it at that. (That's Nu'm bint Baab standing beside me without her baldric; that's her baldric I'm wearing, much to my honor and delight.) Mym also got her stripes at that War, as did our favorite baroness, Johanna von Sudeborn. We also had lots of fun with woad... which MacGregor now tells me takes two laundry runs to get out of a washcloth.
One of our favorite activities at Pennsic and other events is combat shopping. Nothing beats the Merchants' Quarter at Pennsic and Estrella, but here are some on-line merchants for the off-season.
