Space
This painting is a good example of an oil painting that doesn't look like a "Bob Ross style" painting, but it is made using the same technique. Because my hobby is astronomy, I decided to make a space painting. I started with a canvas partly covered with black gesso. I wanted a few areas to be extremely bright so I left a few white spots open for those areas. (the pink/purple nebulae and the comets at the bottom ) When the gesso was dry, I covered the black parts with a mixture of red and blue. Then I started to give the light parts a little color. (Of course after I had covered the white sports with liquid white!) Then I blended all of it together and made a lot of cloud shapes that automatically turn blue/purple because of the color I added on top of the black gesso. I made the stars simply by making dots with a small brush and white paint.
To make the earth in the center, I used traditional oil painting techniques (with a very tiny brush). At the end, I added the asteroids (the "rocks" at the lower-right corner) using the knife (same way you make mountains only messier) and a small brush with a lot of paint for the smaller asteroids.
I think the "Space" painting is the most beautiful painting I have. Not only because I like astronomy but also because of its beautiful colors and because it is very different from other Bob Ross paintings.
