James Martin was married three times, his fist wife was Mary Willis, second was Viris Bolt, and third unknown as of yet. James was a Farmer but also after he moved to Hope Ark. he was on a board to set up the laws to make Hope Ark. a city.

 

Notes for VIRIS BOLT:

Not much is known about Viris Bolt. We do know that she weaved blankets and died while pregnant with her last child. Here is part of a letter that was sent to me by Doris Reed which mentioned how Viris died,

She was Pregnant and carrying cool water down to the cellar to put in the trough where they had the milk and on one trip she spilled some of the water on the clay dirt steps. On the way down again she fell hitting her lower back on the steps. It put her to bed and she finally died from it also miscarried.

Notes for EDNA HENDRIX:

Here is a part of a letter I received from Doris Reed where she recalls some of the things her mother Edna told her. This is in Doris' own words.

 

Mother used to speak of Uncle Harmon quite a lot. There was 3 yrs. difference in their ages. Mother was 3yrs. old when their mother died and Harmon was a baby- They never knew what she looked like. About 1 year after her death, GrandDad Hendrix married and the "war" began. He had seven children and she had 5, so you can imagine what a turmoil it was. They had quite a chore on their hands. Mother said she and Harmon always played together and were very close. They made play houses and she told about one time they climbed up in the loft of the barn and teased a mean bull that was down below them. She said they didn't realize how dangerous that was and if found out they would have gotten a whipping.
