The 1989
Loma Prieta Earthquake |
I was living
in Berkeley and was at home when the quake struck on October 17, 1989, but earlier that
day I had been on the Cypress Freeway, which collapsed during the quake. I never lost
electric power in Berkeley, and even was able to have a pizza and a six-pack delivered.
But it was still a traumatic night, and although I could dial out, I couldn't receive
calls nor could I reach my friends in San Francisco until a couple days later. Below are
three pictures taken of news reports on my television, and a photo I took from the
Berkeley Marina on November 19, 1989, 2 days after the Bay Bridge was reopened. The title
is (Slightly more than) A suggestion of the bridge. |
