News From the Pit Of Ultimate
Darkness
by Judy C. Wang
Greetings, and welcome to the Pit of Ultimate Darkness! We bring you news on
the Kids in the Hall once again, updating you on all of the latest dark
subversiveness of the KITHy world! But that's dark subversiveness in the
best, nicest way possible, of course! Now, onto the news...
With the untimely and unfortunate passing away of NewsRadio star Phil Hartman,
the sitcom which features Dave Foley had to retool its crew and find an
appropriate way to deal with Phil Hartman's death. The opening show of the
series' fifth season, the staff of WNYX will be found at a memorial for
Bill McNeil, the character whom Hartman played, who has died of a heart
attack. The fictional crew will be able to eulogize McNeil's passing as an
analagous tribute to Hartman's memory. Hartman's character will be
replaced by his close friend, Jon Lovitz, who will play an overly sensitive
news anchor, a man extremely paranoid and fearful of being fired from yet
another radio job.
The sitcom, "Twitch City," which debuted last year on Canada's CBC network,
is supposedly heading into a second season, with Bruce McCulloch still at
the creative helm. McCulloch, who portrayed Red Reed, the host of a
sensationalist talk show a la Jerry Springer, also wrote and directed the
series. No word on McCulloch's film, _Dog Park,_ just yet.
Mark McKinney, who has been performing in the play, _A Flea In Her Ear,_ on
Broadway, has also showed up in AT&T commercials in Canada. Playing "Dime
Boy," he gleefully announces to several people during the commercial of
the savings which they'll recieve if they switch to AT&T.
Scott Thompson, with the release of his book, Buddy Babylon, has been
visting cities in Canada and America for book signings and for stand-up
comedy shows.
