HAIKU
by Claire Read
December 1998

Rain at last, hummers
sucking nectar from blossoms
fed by cloud droppings

Setting for haiku.
so far there are only two
soon there will be more
Rocky skeleton
holds the earth, my hillside home
safe during earthquakes
Bill died yesterday.
alone his brain flaming pain
Len mourns taking flight
Enthusiasm
waning late afternoon light
brighter tomorrow
A mess of haiku
framing swift thoughts and meanings
what's it worth to me
Joy,add frustration
while creating images
begin, pickup brush
Seeking morpheus
diazapam, restoral,
all, friendly helpers
Drugs form remedy
dozing drooping dipping head
meets words on keyboard.
What makes poetry,
a sleeples searching old soul
a haiku junky
Best written in sleep
gathering hovering dreams
softening hard truths
Tundra, a nice word
alone, a thoughless image
needing company
Love your verbiage
nouns, dangling participles
searching out meanings
Coffee is ready
smelling wonderful, taste treat
brings to life old bones
Political hearings
virtuous hypocrisy
corrupting process
Use it or lose it
practising masterbation
lacking the real thing
