Huggy Bear were and are still one of my favorite bands of all time...they were a real force of nature--one of the few bands who were really sparked by a sense of purpose...throbbing gristle were very much like that too. Their lyrics were very beautiful a d their music was unique...it's hard to classify. Their music was very familiar but also came out of nowhere...kind of alien...hard to pin down. They were _the_ most poetic punk band imo...that last album was so beautiful. That's also why complaining about huggy bear is pointless. You can complain about their music, say it was unsophisticated, say they were long-winded/sel-important, but that's pointless, cause what made huggy bear great was how they affected people and ho ppl related to them, and if you don't jive with what they're saying then you probably aren't gonna like their music...it's useless trying to analyse their "objective" worth. Tho IMO huggy bear DID make great/brilliant music. But seriously, idol worship only gets so far. People need to be active themselves instead of always looking to other people. I suggest people read the writings and interviews of Genesis P. Orridge...he has a very beautiful philosophy. He was a member of the pioneering industrial group Throbbing Gristle...they coined the term industrial, they were industrial before people liste ed to them and distilled them into the cliches and formulaes which a lot of industrial is nowadays. He also was in the video/performance art/music group "psychic tv", and he also worked in/helped form the anti-cult the Temple Ov Psychick Youth. He also has the dubious distinction of being the most recent person to be exhiled "great" britain, his native country, along with the rest of his family in 1991. It started when a group of American religious right-wingers decided to perform a media assas ination on him and to turn public opinion against him and create public hysteria in collusion with British television...they used performance art videos that he had made and took them out of context to help in their fabricated claims of a "satanic abuse c rcle". They also paid off two women who were in a psychiatric hospital for nervous breakdowns to have them say that they were members of his "cult" and that the cult made them perform abortions and then eat the fetuses...ridiculous stuff. They didn't ev n know the name of the organisation, they just made something up. The government already seriously disliked him for his political beliefs/affiliations (being pro-sex, pro-rave, pro-drug use, and anti-apartheid) (he had already been subjected to threats b various police officers/officials of the state, as well as having his mail opened on occasion), and the government took the chance to use the scandal as a pretense to finally crack down on him...including over 20 Scotland Yard officers coming to his door with a battering ram...fortunately he wasn't there at the time, he was out of country in Nepal. The govt. took almost all of his possessions, the bulk of which was art that he had collected over the years, family photo albums, his work and archives, and still not giving back any of his possessions, saying that it's "evidence" for a charge which they have never pressed against him. And he can't return to the country, since a government representative told him that the govt. "couldn't guarantee his physic l well being" if he returned to the country, or the well being of his kids (which would be taken away from him). Anyways, long story, but I think it's important to know about... Oh yeah, what ever happened to Famous Monsters of Filmland? Are they still existant? What stuff did they release? I'm interested. The homecomings shall be cool I think...looking forward to listening to them when they come out with some stuff. Maybe they can head over to the states and give us all a treat? Hmm...no gossip...is it considered gossip if we have pictures to back us up? Just kidding...we don't want no national enquirers of the underground, folks. Please. great site, nice to see that the HB soul is still around. still kicking myself bigtime for never getting to see them live (i was a mere country-bound kitten when they played). but i did at least get to see most of the members kicking around at gigs; Chris at a Make-Up gig, Jo at a Sonic Youth (i think?can't quite remember?) gig, Karen at a Bis gig, and Jon at a Sleater-Kinney gig a few months ago. unfortunately never seen Niki anywhere. also Jo wrote me a really nice letter years ago when i wrote to her about the Famous Monsters record label they were doing, i can remember it was on nice sanrio (before it became v.popular) paper & she asked me who my favourite famous monster was. i never even expected her to reply to my letter... Other spin-oof stuff: Jo and Nicki were the furbelows, recorded a track that started with a sample of Patsy kensit in 21 - I can't remember where it went out all this time later but it was great. They released a white label 7" of Feb 14th - gave it away t the Richmond, 14/2/93, and I think some other gigs - they used to scribble on it. There's more but it was too long ago

Hey mellowgirl... if graham and blur are so cool why were they all huge huggy bear fans? Dave and Graham especially went to loads of gigs. You probably werent a fan of blur when they had huggy bear supporting them either. Cant you hear the influence jo had on graham's guitar playing and thus the direction of the "blur" album. Oh... of course not... Because you don't listen to them. Too stupid to even realise Huggy Bear came from Britain and alot of their fans (including blur - know they're british by ny chance?) were British. Jo was going out with Graham for a while and in my opinion it was the dumbest thing she ever did... but hey at least she stopped blur making jingo shit like parklife and the great escape. So you should kneel and praise Jo mello girl, for the fact she saved blur from becoming a total joke. And if Graham's fucked in the head now it just shows how weak and stupid he is.

I presume you mean stuart pigeon... i thought i'd give you an update about him. after a few years of being bis' tour manager he finally gave that up and moved to milwaukee to marry amberleigh (a milwaukee gal). the wedding was in June (i was there).
