Since you've been gone my world has been wrong. I miss you, I need you, I love you. I promised long ago - your freedom, and you know whenever you stray, I hope and I pray you find your way home to me, Love. I once had a cat named Melissa. A kitten to never grow old. My love for her overwhelming. But she died she had a cold. I still miss my Melissa. Such love could never die. And so, each night - when you are out - I fear our last goodbye. Where Are You Tonight? Where are you tonight? Dreaming of me, when we were happy? Or dreaming with somebody new? I promised long ago - your freedom, and you know whenever you stray, I hope and I pray you find your way home to me, Cub. Background: This was written back in 1974, for my Airedale named Cub, who was missing. As it turned out, Cub was taken by a man who planned to keep him. And he would have, but the man's wife kept Cub's collar and dog tags, and after 3 weeks, with her conscience bothering her, called and told me that her husband had taken the dog out for a walk, and on what street corner I could find them at. If you know Portland, Oregon, you will appreciate the fact that Cub was taken from downtown Portland near the Stadium and that I drove across the river down Sandy Blvd. to East 33rd Street! Cub saw me from a block away, ran to me and greeted me with such joy that he almost tumbled me over. I was sobbing. The man was in equal distress, and came up to me in tears, apologizing, because he could see how much the dog and I loved each other. I wrote this song during the 3-week period, when I realized my dog wasn't coming home. © - 1999 - J.R. Brown ~ All Rights Reserved
