Rainbow Warriors
  (From an old Hopi tale)

A Poem by

Elders told stories
Foretelling desperate times

When trees no longer grow
Waters flow dark and slow
Sickness all around
Stained skies hide the sun
From a dying ground

Elders stories tell us
Of rainbow warriors

Who come to help us all
Hold and care for this earth
As mothers do with every child
Giving hope to every heart
They heal

These tales the elders tell
Point to each of us

To love all trees, all people
To love every stream
To cherish precious lands
To hold each child's hand
And teach them how to give

So they as the tellers
Can speak of better times

Days without pains
Blue streams under crystal skies
Every race living with peace
Upon healthy lands
Filled with rainbows for all to see

So please listen now
To stories told

Of rainbow people far and wide
Who share with us how to live
With nature and with pride
Brothers and sisters holding hands standing side by side
With open hearts we give

A tale of rainbow warriors
With love
And so it is
