A Taste of Hell

A Poem by

"It's all very well', said the novice
To sit here rested, relaxed,
Not a care in the 'world'
(Using the term loosely).
It's all very well,
But I've been here over a year now
And I'm tired of doing nothing--
It's not natural--
And it's very boring!

The chief Spirit nodded his head
He'd heard it all before--
Many times during his 10,000 years
In the Here-After. Many times!
'Look down there', the novice went on,
There's Dad--growing old,
With all the worries and cares
Of raising a family
And Mother--doing all she can,
To keep the kids happy and well.
'Isn't there any way I can help them?'
'Isn't there something I can do?'
'No", said the Spirit, 'I'm afraid not.
All you can do is watch.'
'Well, I must say', grumbled the novice,
'That's a funny way to run Heaven!'
The Spirit smiled, and replied,
'Who said this was Heaven?'
