The Porch Light
The porch light burns in the distance
so far away.
My feet are sore
bleeding on the road.
I've walked a thousand miles
I'm not sure I can make ten more.
But I want to go home.
The wolves leer along the way
try to make me listen to what they say,
I'll never get past them, never get home
they lie, I hope.
I remember the damp cave,
two years and more I lay therein.
Trapped and lonely, dark for company
But now I've escaped.
I've walked a thousand miles
I'm not sure I can make ten more.
But I want to go home.
The light from the porch was once so dim
I could barely pick it out. But it's grown brighter.
So near I almost shout with joy.
I'm getting so much closer.
The chains binding my hands
and heart fell away.
The past has gotten closer,
sweeten the dream of future.
I've walked a thousand miles
I'm not sure I can make ten more.
But I want to go home.
If this is home,
my heart is free.
If this is home,
I'll be me. Again.
