Introduction

Hi There!

My name is Jim Kelley, and this website represents my ideal World - not the way it is, of course, but the way it SHOULD be. Here you will find my ideas on many things, not the least of which are Government and The Way Things Ought To Be, but also including technology, literature, music, humor and even standards of measurement. This World of ours could use a big dose of improvement, and I am not shy about telling you what and how.

That's what a personal website is for, isn't it?

Kelley's Planet is an ideal, but it is not impractical. In fact, you will find many resources here for liberating yourself and others from the yoke of Government, eventually to achieve total freedom from coercion - even if we have to leave this planet to do it. After all, I never said Kelley's Planet was the third rock from the Sun - and maybe it will work better if it isn't!

So, is Kelley's Planet just an imaginary ideal, or what?

So far it is. Kelley's Planet is not so much a place as a way of living. Believe it or not, you can enjoy personal freedom even on this comprehensively tyrannized sphere of ours. The concept is called PT, which stands for Perpetual Traveller, Permanent Tourist, Positive Thinker, Prepared Thoroughly, Privacy Tactics and lots of other things. Essentially the PT organizes his or her personal papers so that every jurisdiction he might be in considers him a tourist or at most resident alien, and so not worth messing with. On the contrary, PTs are often treated with kid gloves - after all, if you're not part of the captive population, you can leave at any time, so they have to *respect* you!

Naturally, we would all like to live in a World where PT is not necessary. Kelley's Planet is all about that too. If you study History, you'll find that technology has done more to liberate people than politics ever did - more, in fact, than politics (with no technological progress) was capable of. The reason the United States was for so long a free country (which it isn't any longer) was not due to superior government but rather because it was an ideal environment for sustained technological progress.

Which it isn't any longer either.

The World Federalists know this. That is why liberals, socialists, eco-zoids and other creepy, conniving control freaks insist on stopping progress. They know that, sooner or later, daring and intelligent men and women will make the cheap space flight breakthrough, and when that happens, their cause is lost.

Why else do you think Government has done so much to prevent private space travel?

From the beginning, space travel has been a Government monopoly. They tell you it is too expensive for private enterprise, to say nothing of individuals, to even try. They say it's too dangerous both for the traveller and people on the ground. They assure you that without Government (and the taxes to support it) *nobody* could ever hope to slip the bonds of Mother Earth.

They lie.

I am currently working with inventor David Cowlishaw to develop his Gyroscopic Inertial Thruster for practial use. The GIT works, of that you may rest assured; the only hindrance now is the time and money needed to produce a reliable self-lifter. When we (or you, if you want to try it) achieve that, the era of rockets - and Government control of space - will be over.

David's invention is now in the public domain, as are one or two improvements contributed by other members of the GIT development team. Very likely more improvements and variations will be added to the public domain as we go along; the spirit of this project is open and free, quite the opposite of your typical corporate effort. If you'd like to join our Worldwide project, I'm sure David would welcome you.

Eventually we will establish a real Kelley's Planet somewhere. It may be on Mars, the Moon, an asteroid or somewhere else. It probably won't be called Kelley's Planet, unless the colonists are all friends of mine (a distinct possibility!). Even so, it will be a community of free-thinking individuals determined to be free in body and circumstances as well - and, I hope, happy to be my neighbors. I look forward to seeing you there.
