The Hello Jello Club

What is the Hello Jello Club?

The Hello Jello Club is an unnofficial fan club for the books that I am writing. Like many others, I am an aspiring author and I have almost finished my first book (it is about 95% complete now). The book is about a group of grade 7 students who form their own club called the Hello Jello Club. These students are friends who like to do stuff together, like shopping, movies, etc. and also like to help others (for example, volunteering for Peer Tutoring at school). The Hello Jello Club members want to find out more about a new girl in their class and end up finding out a lot more than they bargained for, since this girl has a dark secret that she is desperately trying to hide...

The Hello Jello Club has nothing whatsoever to do with Jell-O, Pudding Pops or Bill Cosby.

Who is the book being written for?

The book is being written for the real Hello Jello Club, a grade 7 class that I volunteered with in 1994. They were a totally awesome group of students and they inspired me to write the book. Special greets to Aimee, Erin, Farryn, Kyla, and Melissa (who should be feeling guilty because they haven't written me in a long time). Hello Jello!

Here's the real Hello Jello Club:

(In case you're wondering who's who in the photo, Erin is in front, and (L to R) Farryn, Aimee, Melissa, and Kyla are in back).

The target audience for the book is anyone in about grade 4 to 9.
Newsflash!! Congrats to Erin, who has a part in a major Hollywood movie!! It is called "Disturbing Behavior" (with Katie Holmes) and she has key parts in three scenes. Well, ok a couple of the scenes got cut but make sure you watch for her in the kitchen scene when she talks about her grandfather!! We saw the movie and it is great!!! It is coming out on video in January!

How do I join the Hello Jello Club?

Well, actually, you can't really join it yet, because the book hasn't been published yet, so I can't afford to mail out anything. However, what you can do is to email me and encourage me to finish the book so that you can read it. I will send you an update when I get around to writing something in my book, and maybe you might even get a small preview! Once the book is published, then I will have a random draw and send out some free copies. I have sent out preview chapters to Aimee, Erin, Farryn, Kyla, and Melissa and their response has been pretty positive.

When will the book be finished?

Good question! Unfortunately, even I don't know the answer to that. However, I hope to motivate myself to finish the book within the next year and then start mailing it to publishers. As I said before, it is about 95% finished, but I'm stuck on how to resolve a couple of problems and gaps in the story. Based on the number of words in a standard paperback book, it will work out to about 150 pages. Send me some email and encourage me to finish the book!

Is this going to be the only Hello Jello Club book?

Actually, no. I have started working on a second Hello Jello Club book, and it has to do with more supernatural things like Ouija boards and stuff. Pretty spooky... it's a lot more intense than the first book, which is more emotional. Since the Jello Club is older in this book, it may appeal to slightly older readers than the first book... well, I guess the same people that read the first book are going to be older anyway!

I have an idea for your book. What should I do?

Email me any and all ideas and I will include them if they are suitable. Also, your name will appear in the credits if you make a suggestion that I haven't thought of already!
