The SCA is an organization for medieval re-enactments. It is an
international organization that began in 1966. Members of the SCA are dedicated to
researching and recreating pre 17th century European history. We like to say that we're
living the Middle Ages as they should have been. We "selectively" recreate the
time period and actively participate in many events and meetings held all year round, in
many divers locations.
My interest in the SCA has led me to
research and learn a great deal about period clothing (which you can find on my
"Garb" link), period food and cooking, dance, music and weaponry from that
period. The first event I attended was Crown Feast in Warwick, RI in 1997. I was hooked! I
was a Rennie from way back, but this was a way to "play" all year round!
If you have any interest at all in history,
explore the links listed here and if you have any questions, drop me a line. It's a great
way to relax, relieve stress, and party with folks who enjoy the same things as you.
UPDATE: I recently moved from the East coast to the West coast, and am now playing in the Kingdom of An Tir, Barony of Madrone. Still meeting folk and learning my way around, but having the SCA out here has helped ease some of the homesickness. It's like having a huge extended family that spreads from coast to coast.
