The Whale Rescue TeamThe Whale Rescue Team is a group of people who care about marine life and the health of the planet. The Whale Rescue Team doesn't spend donations on mailing out glossy newsletters proclaiming how wonderful we are. Donations to the Whale Rescue Team support direct actions to rescue and protect marine mammals.
Whale Rescue Team volunteers take to the sea to rescue California grey whales from the death grip of commercial gill nets and other fishing gear. Whale Rescue Team volunteers have rescued dozens of sea lions injured by gill nets. Sea Lions can bite their way out of the net, but usually have remains of the net entangled around their head and neck. If not rescued the sea lion will die a slow death from strangulation or infection from the wound. The suffering is far from over. Gill nets continue to cause a tremendous amount of suffering and death of all marine life off the California coast and throughout the world.
The Ocean Mammal InstituteThe Ocean Mammal Institute (OMI),is dedicated to awakening peoples' minds and hearts to nature's interconnected harmony. Our programs help individuals understand and feel their connection to nature, and give them courage to act responsibly for the planet and its inhabitants.
Campaign WhaleA non profit organization dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and their habitats.
Silent Oceans The Silent Oceans Trust, a 501 (c) (3) public non-profit organization, is an international educational foundation of ocean stewardship focusing on raising public awareness of the issue of ocean noise pollution. The primary activity of the Trust is the Silent Oceans Project in celebration of and reverence for the sea as the source of life on the planet. The first annual Silent Oceans Day, September 19, 1999, marked the beginning of a five year process of global consciousness raising, educational programs and the creation of international standards concerning human-made sound pollution in the ocean. The day will be repeated on September 19, 2000 globally.
Every year, Silent Oceans Day calls upon citizens of every nation to observe nine minutes of silence in the seas. In the spirit of cooperation and to the extent that it is possible, ships will turn off their engines, underwater construction will cease, geological blasting and drilling will pause and deafening sonar will be turned off. For nine minutes, we will free the ocean's sound sphere from human interference.
The establishment of Silent Oceans Day will become to the Oceans (70% of the world's surface) what Earth Day is to the land -- a day of shared commitment, awareness, celebration and service.

Sign The "Declaration of Rights For Whales and Dolphins""Perhaps the time has come to formulate a moral code which would govern our relations with the great cetaceans of the sea as well as with those on dry land. That this will come to pass is our greatest wish. If human civilisation is going to invade the waters of the earth, then let it be first of all to carry a message of respect, respect for all life."

Listen to LFAS ViewpointsThe U.S. Navy is moving ahead with plans to deploy a new extended-range submarine detection system that will introduce into the world's oceans noise billions of times louder than that known to disturb whales. This risky technology -- Low Frequency Active Sonar (LFA) -- represents a potentially devastating and wide-ranging threat to our planet's marine life. This site has 300 links and web resources regarding Low Frequency Active Sonar (LFAS). Join the email list regarding low frequency active sonar at stoplfas@egroups.com or stoplfas@onelist.com.
