Revelations - Author's Introduction
Ever since the "Age of Apocalypse" (Alter-X, or AoA) mini-series
came out in the 1995, I have been fascinated with it. In fact, I have
always been fascinated with alternate timeline stories. No, that's not
true - I've always been fascinated with alternate timeline
*characters*. The story is usually good, to be certain. But to see a
well-known character in a different light is the most important part,
to me. Whether it's a Star Trek story, Sliders, Star Wars, or whatever
(assuming most alternate timeline stories are of the science fiction
variety), it is the character's new personalities, new beliefs, new
emotions that intrigue me the most.
It is this what fascinates me about the "Age of Apocalypse". Not
the plausible theory of the death of Xavier. Not the possible conquest
of the world by Apocalypse. It's the characters that really appeal to
me. Domino as an evil, terminator-like assassin working for
Apocalypse. Juggernaut as a peace loving monk. Exodus as a hero.
Guido as a traitor. This is why I love the series. It showed us the
possibilities in each character - possibilities that can be
horrifying, or enlightening. All developed in a different way than we
know. All starting with the death of the man, Charles Xavier.
One character was my favorite, in particular. Scott Summers, aka
Cyclops. In the Real-X timeline, Cyclops is a tried and true leader
of the X-men and follower of Charles Xavier, believing in the peaceful
co-existance of human and mutant. In the "Age of Apocalypse",
however, Cyclops is the son of Mr. Sinister, second horseman of the
Apocalypse. He is a tried and true warrior for mutant supremacy. He
also happens to be the commander of the "Pens", a prison in which few
humans and turncoat mutants escape from alive. At the beginning of
the series, however, he began to see why what he was doing was wrong -
thanks to an encounter with the X-man, Jean Grey. In fact, by the end
of the series, he leads the captives in the Pens in a mass escape,
tired of the evilness of Apocalypse.
But, how did he come to this Revelation? Was it just the
personality of the telepathic Jean Grey? Was it guilt, remorse? Or was
it something else, or a combination of all the above? This is where
this story begins. If you are familiar with the "Age of Apocalypse"
series, it begins slightly before X-Chronicles #2, where Jean Grey has
already been rescued. It is about 2-3 years before the regular "Age of
Apocalypse" series begins (reference, Factor-X #3, Cyclops flashback).
We will explore what happened at this time.
As a final note, this story is written in the first person, from
Prelate Scott Summers viewpoint. In essense, you'll be reading his
'thoughts'. Any kind of telepathic communication will be seen in <
>'s. Other than that, it should all be in first person. I'm sorry
for the choice of that format, but that's the way I wanted to go. I
also apologize for any punctuation and spelling errors in advance.
All known X-men characters in this story are copywrited by Marvel
Comics. No permission was obtained, but no profit is to be made from
this story. It is purely for my personal enjoyment. All other
characters, concepts, plots, theories, technology not seen in Marvel
Comics belong to me.
