Greeting Card Houses
My first idea was to use old greeting cards to make the houses
from.
- I traced the front and back and sides onto the greeting
card and
- gave each part a right side and bottom border of about
¼-inch. This was so that I could glue them all together.
- Then I scored each line to make it easier to fold and
glued it all together.
- With fabric paint I drew the door and the windows.
Now I was looking for a way to create a little bit more solid
house and had to find a substitute for the wood in the original
creation. That was easy. I used my styrofoam meat trays. They
are very easy to cut with an exacto knife and give a quite
solid base and are also easy to glue together with the glue
gun.
Once I had the base together I went looking for something
to cover it to make it look more realistic. I ended up using
brown plastic stir sticks. My family says that it looks like
a Swiss Chalet, I guess my background is showing.
CDscape
This time I used craft paper to cover the basic shape. I
put the craft paper through the crimper to make it look wavy.
I finished it with a layer of varnish.
The pine trees are also made out of styrofoam. Two identical
pieces with a slit in the middle one on the top and on the
other piece on the bottom so that they slot together and then
painted.
The fence is made out of stir stick straws that I glued together
with the glue gun.
I sponge painted the CD, masked the path with a piece of clear
tape and painted over it and when it was dry removed it. To
finish it all I glued all the pieces to the CD.
