Greeting Card - Christmas Ornaments

I was trying to come up with an idea of what to do with all those Christmas, Birthday and other greeting cards that accumulate over the year.

At Aleene's TV Show they had shown how to make lovely little boxes, but I wanted boxes that could not be opened, just for show. So with a little experimenting I came up with this project.

Materials:

  • old greeting card
  • Aleene's boxmaker
  • glue or glue gun

(In this project is doesn't matter which side of the boxmaker is used)

  • Lay the greeting card on the boxmaker with the inside of the card facing you. Score lines around this out side of the card the depth you want.
  • Now place the card against the side of the boxmaker where the card is naturally folded and score a line on the front half of the card the depth of the outside scores.
  • Cut of the card at the score line on the back of the card and make a new score line of equal depth to the one you just cut off.
  • Cut notches as usual for the boxmaker and fold the score lines. By holding the card together it now looks like a box.
  • Glue the front flap over the back flap.
  • Fold in the top and bottom of the box and glue shut.
  • Attach a hanger for the Christmas tree or use it as a picture to hang un the wall.

Note:

For wall pictures it is best to make very shallow sides with ½ inch score lines. For Christmas tree ornaments 1½ inches or more looks better, as well as embellishing them with a ribbon and bow to make them look like gifts.
