Video Tape Chest with Drawers

I saw on TV Carol Duvall making a small chest with sardine cans as drawers. It is on episode CDS 713.

That gave me the idea to use my video tapes to make the cabinet and foamcore board to make the drawers.

4 Video Tapes made the frame for the cabinet. I covered each video tape with paper masking tape and then glued them together. For the back of the cabinet I used a piece of cardboard.

I used foamcore board for the inside to create the shelf and the drawers. I painted the inside black with 'Indoor/Outdoor Gloss' paint. I covered the drawers with contact paper.

Now I had some leftover drywall compound from a job around the house and decided it would give me a nice textured surface. I used a cheap pastry brush from the dollar store to apply the compound in a criss-cross pattern.

To give it some color I sponge painted it to match the contact paper. Applied some stencil designs again to match the contact pacper and outlined them with fabric paint.

As feet I glued the 4 lids from pop bottles to the underside of the chest.

As handles for the drawers I used long beads and attached them with craft wire to give stability.

Now that you are stuck with all the cases for the video tapes check out what you can create with them.
