Chapter 10
"Oww! Why'd ya hafta go 'an do dat, Tay?" Zac asked, rubbing his
head. He tried to stand up, but immediately fell over.
"Zac, you are one stupid little shit, you know that?" Taylor
growled. His accent was gone, and he was just plain pissed.
"Well excoose me for wanna having a good time. God, what crawled
up you ass 'an died?" Zac asked. It was followed by a hiccup. Taylor rolled
his eyes.
"Nothing Zac. But you're gonna blow our cover. Seriously, next
time we won't bring you along." Taylor threatened. Zac laughed, drunken
laughter.
"Yeah, right Tay. You 'an Ike canna do dat." He said. Taylor
sighed.
"Watch us. Now, you're going to stay out here, until you're sobered
up, or I'm going to kick your ass." He said. Zac hiccuped in response.
"I'll take that as a yes." Taylor muttered, and whirled around,
and found himself nose to nose with Delia. He gasped, and nearly fell back.
Delia had a very angry look on her face.
"May I ask you what is going on?" She demanded. Taylor was about
to give up, when an idea hit him.
"No, you may not." He replied. Delia rolled her eyes.
"Don't play smart ass with me, Taylor." She said. Taylor was
momentarily puzzled by her choice of words. Again, she had used phrases
common to the 1900.
"Smart ass?" He questioned.
"Little shit?" She shot back. Taylor sighed.
"You guys aren't really from New Orleans, are you?" She asked.
Taylor sat down on the bench. Zac was still sprawled out on the grass.
"No. But, I can't tell you where I'm from." He said. Delia snickered.
"Why not? Are you convicts?" She asked. Convicts? Taylor was
sure that wasn't used in the 1600.
"What about you?" He asked, turning the tables around. "You don't
sound like you're from here either." Delia shrugged.
"I'm not. But there are a lot of things you don't know about
me, Taylor Hanson. A lot."
Taylor stared her in the eye evenly. She stared right back. Taylor
didn't want to accept her answer, but something was forcing him to.
"Fine." He answered. That wasn't him! What was making him say
that?
"Good." She said, and leaned back against the chair.
"I mean, no it's not fine!" He shot out. She looked at him, surprised.
"You just said it was." She said. He shook his head.
"No! I want to know how you got here! You're from another time,
aren't you?" He accused. She just stared at him for a moment, then looked
down at the grass.
"Yes." She answered. Taylor knew it was the answer, but he wasn't
expecting her to admit it.
"Really? Oh, cool." He murmured. She raised a eyebrow.
"What about you? You're from another time too, aren't you? You
look like that band." She said. Taylor nearly fell out of his seat. That
means she's from the same time era as him! Possibly even the same year!
"I don't know what you're talking about. Besides, we were talking
about you. What time era are you from?" He asked. Delia sighed, and looked
up at the stars.
"They're beautiful, aren't they?" She suddenly said. Making a
statement more that a question.
"The stars? Yeah. I guess." He answered.
"I'm from 1999." She said. Taylor inhaled sharply.
"1999?" He squeaked.
"Yes."
"How did you get here?" He asked slowly.
"Magick." She answered.
"Magic? Like, Boom! Abracadabra?" He asked. She shook her head,
laughing softly.
"No. Magick, as in Wiccan Magick. I'm a Wiccan." She said.
"You're a witch?" He asked. She nodded.
"Yeah. I was sick and tired of my life, so I worked for years
on a spell that would take me to a time where I could be happy. It took
me here." She said. Taylor nodded. She turned to face him.
"Please, Taylor you cannot tell anyone of this. I'm serious.
If they were to find out, I'd be burned at the stake." She begged. Taylor
looked at her. He touched her hand.
"I promose. No one will know." He said.
Neither of them knew it at the time, but behind the rose bushes
the Perishs' gardener had to elequently planted, was Vanessa Perish. And
no one saw, the evil smile that formed her on her tiny, perfect mouth.
Chapter 11
The Next Day.
"That was some party last night, wasn't it, Zac?" Ike joked when
Zac came down the stairs.
"Uggh." Zac groaned in response. Taylor had filled Isaac in on
what had happened at the Ball, with the exception of Delia's confession.
They came home last night, and Delia went straight to her room. She'd had
a lot to drink as well. Delia had left early in the morning for a walk.
She also wanted to pick up some herbs for cooking. Isaac wasn't too
pleased about what Zac had done, but he was more calm than Taylor had been.
"Zac, you made a complete fool of yourself." Taylor said. Zac
shrugged, and flashed a lopsided grin.
"So? That's what I do!" He said. Taylor tried to hide his smirk,
but it was useless. It was very hard not to laugh at Zac. Taylor regained
his poise, and made an announcement.
"I think we should leave soon." He said. Ike and Zac both stared
at him.
"But, Taylor, why? This is the best we've had so far!" Isaac
said. Zac nodded.
"Yeah. I mean, do you really want to go back to all those screaming
girls so quickly? I mean, that was really annoying. Here, no one knows
who we are." He said. Taylor shrugged.
"Yeah, but it's getting sort of boring. There is only so much
you can do in the 1600 after all." He said. Their conversation was stopped
when Delia burst through the door.
"Hide me!" She screamed. The three brother's stared at her.
"Why?" Zac asked, but Taylor was getting out of his seat. He
had a feeling on what this was about.
"They're after me! I was walking through the village, when three
men on horses rode up to me. They accused me of being a witch, and they
said I was to go to the town hall immediately for sentencing! you've got
to hide me! My father must have found out where I am! I ran straight here!
I think I lost them in the woods, but I don't know!" She said. Zac ran
to the cellar.
"Down here!" He yelled. Delia ran into the cellar, and into a
hidden door behind the pantry. There was just barely enough room for her.
"Don't come out until we tell you to." He instructed. Delia nodded,
and Zac closed the door. Taylor and Ike were standing in the doorway. They
went back upstairs, and shut the cellar door.
"Taylor, remember what we discussed?" Ike asked. Taylor didn't
look at him. He ran up the stairs.
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Ike called up after
him.
"Just a sec!" Was Taylor's muffled reply. He was up there for
a good five minutes, then came back down.
"Taylor, we've got to tell them about her." Isaac said. Taylor
shook his head.
"We can't do that, Ike, you don't understand. She's not the type
of witch these people fear." He said. Ike shook his head.
"Tay, we can't risk it." He said. Zac was confused.
"What are you talking about? We told her we'd hide her, and that
means no one finds out where she is! Taylor promised her!" He said. Taylor
nodded.
"Ike, you don't understand." He said softly. Ike's face got red.
"I understand perfectly, Taylor. You've found a sweetie, and
you're going to risk everything because she's a witch." He said. Taylor
glared at him.
"No." He said. There was a pounding on the door.
"Open up in there!" A man's gruff voice yelled. Taylor turned
to Isaac.
"Please, Isaac, if being my brother has ever meant anything to
you, trust me now!" Taylor said. Isaac scowled. He hated it when Taylor
used the 'older brother' thing with him.
"Fine." He muttered. Zac went to answer the door.
"Can I help you?" He asked. Three men stood at the door. They
were all in their mud thirties, and they all looked very angry.
"Where is she?" One of them demanded.
"She? She who?" Zac asked innocently.
"That witch! We know she's been staying here. Where is she?"
He repeated. Taylor came to the door as well.
"No one's been staying here. Only our hired hand and housemaid.
Both have been with us for years." He said. The eldest, and biggest of
the three men studied his face.
"We would like to search the area." He said. Taylor shrugged.
"We have nothing to hide." He said.
"And where is your housemaid and hand?" The third asked.
"Our housemaid's gone to visit her family in Richmond, and our
hand went to town." Isaac said, joining the conversation.
"Fine." The eldest said. They went through the house, and searched
Delia's room from top to bottom. They found no evidence of witchcraft or
devil worship.
"Are you happy now?" Taylor asked impatiently. The eldest sighed.
"I'm sorry about this. The Perish girl said she overheard your
hand talking about being a witch to someone. She didn't know who the other
person was. We saw her in the village, and chased her through the woods,
but we lost her. We told her she was to be prosecuted in the Town Hall
for practicing witchcraft, and on the means of witch accusation, and she
began to protest. Saying she'd never heard of anything so ridiculous in
all her life. Then we had no choice but to ise force to take her to the
Town Hall, and that was when she fled." He explained
"Well, I would run too, if I had been accused of being a witch."
Zac grumbled. The eldest sighed.
"We have to inspect every case." He said. "Sorry to bother you,
but when she comes home, take her to the Town Hall immediately. We will
come tomorrow for her if you don't. If she is innocent, it will be proved.
But until then, she is guilty." He said, and with that the three men left.
Isaac slammed the door behind them.
"Dammit! Taylor, I knew something like this would happen." He
yelled. Taylor averted his gaze to the floor.
"You don't understand, Ike. We have to get her out of here. If
Vanessa Perish has it in her head the Delia's a witch, then she'll stop
at nothing until she is burned." He said.
"Taylor, has it crossed his mind that maybe this is her destiny?
Hades talked about destiny, and how important it is, maybe this is how
it's supposed to end for Delia." Ike said softly.
"No! How can you say that? Could you honestly admit to being
able to watch her burn to death without any remorse?" Zac screamed. Ike
shook his head.
"We will have to take her to the Town Hall tomorrow. We don't
have a choice." He said. \ "She won't let you take her." Taylor muttered.
"How do you know?" A voice said from behind them. They all whirled
around, and faced Delia.
Chapter 12
"Delia!" Zac gasped. "How did you get out of the cellar?" Delia
shrugged.
"I have my ways. I am going to go to the Town Hall tomorrow."
She said. Taylor's eyes went wide.
"But, you can't. They will burn you." He said. Delia shook her
head.
"I have seen it, everything will go fine. I will not be burned."
She said. Ike looked at her suspiciously.
"How do you know?" He asked. She shrugged.
"Fine. I have already explained this to Taylor, so I suppose
you have a right to know as well. I am a witch." She said. Zac stepped
back.
"But, there's no such thing as witches!" He said. She raised
a eyebrow.
"How do you know that?" She asked. He suddenly looked very uncomfortable.
"Well, everyone knows they're not real." He said. She smirked.
"Shows what you know." She said. Zac looked ocnfused once again.
"What I know? What about what you know?" He asked. She smiled.
"Zac Hanson. Drummer of the band Hanson." She whispered. His
eyes nearly popped out of his head. Isaac looked very angry.
"What the hell are you talking about?" He demanded. She turned
to him.
"Ike Hanson. Guitarist." She said. Taylor shook his head.
"How did you find out?" He asked. She shrugged.
"I'm a witch, sherlock. I know things you don't. I've seen you
on T.V. before." She said.
"T.V.?" Zac squeaked. Delia nodded.
"I'm from 1999, like you." She said. They were all silent for
a long time.
"Now you see why I couldn't let them find her?" Taylor asked
softly. Ike nodded.
"Sorry." He said. Delia went to the door, and grabbed her cloak.
"If I'm not mistaken, we have a meeting at the Town Hall to attend.
Gentlemen?" She asked. the brother's followed her out, and they got into
the carriage.
Chapter 13
The whole courthouse was silent. They were waiting for the arrival
of one Miss Delia Tefault. Vanessa Perish and her family were in the front
row. Vanessa had a very pleased look on her face. There's nothing to get
in my way of Taylor Hanson now. She thought to herself. The doors burst
open, and Delia walked in. Her cloak billowing behind her like a black
cape. There were hushed whispers, and nervous glances. The Hanson brother's
walked in behind her. There were three reserved seats in the front for
them. Delia took her place on the stand.
"Miss Delia Tefault. It's so good of you to join us." The Judge
said.
"I aim to please." Delia said. The Judge hadn't expected an answer,
but didn't say anything about her comment.
"Are you aware, that today you are being tried on a accusation
made against you, on the meansof being a witch, and practicing witchcraft?"
The Judge asked. Delia nodded.
"Yes I am your Honor." She said.
"What do you have to say about that?" He asked. Delia shrugged.
"What can I say? Either way, you're going to convict me. I may
be innocent, but because a girl has said that she overheard me saying I
was a witch, you're going to assume I am a witch." She said. The Judge
nodded.
"Understandable. But you are aware that you are guilty until
proven innocent?" He asked. Zac was about to say that she's innocent until
proven guilty, but remembered that things were different in the 1600.
"I think that is a unfair law, but yes, I am aware of it." She
said.
"Can you bring any evidence before the jury and myself that you
are innocent?" He asked. She shook her head.
"How can I prove that I am innocent? If you throw me off a cliff,
and I die, then I am innocent, but I am still dead. If you throw me off
a cliff, and I fly away, than I am a witch, and you sentence be to be burned
at the stake. If you can catch me, that is." She said. The Judge raised
an eyebrow.
"Catch you? Please explain this, Miss Tefault."
"Well, if I could fly, I doubt very much that I would come back
to be burned, don't you agree? I would probably keep on flying until I
got somewhere far, far away from here." She said. the Judge nodded.
"Are you saying that you can fly?" He asked. Delia almost laughed.
"I assure you, your Honor, I cannot fly. If I could, do you think
I would be here?" She said. The Judge nodded.
"Thank you, you may be seated." He said. Delia sat down, and
looked rather pleased with herself.
"The Town calls Vanessa Perish to the stand." The Judge said.
Vanessa, full of ruffles trotted up to the stand.
"Hello, Miss Perish. Can you tell us exactly what you heard the
night of you're parent's ball?" The Judge asked. Vanessa smiled, and batted
her eyelashes.
"It would be my pleasure. I went for a walk in the garden, and
I heard some voices. At first I paid no attention, as it is not in my nature
to eavesdrop. I was smelling the roses, and I heard a female voice and
a male voice. The female was explaining to the male how she was a Wiccan,
or something like that. And that Wiccans are witches. She said she had
spent months preparing a spell, to send herself somewhere, and that she
had powers to do evil." She said.
"And can you identify who the male voice you heard was?" The
Judge asked. Vanessa's eyes flickered to Taylor, and she shook her head,
looking back at the Judge.
"I'm terribly sorry, but I only saw Miss Delia. Not the man."
She said. Taylor raised his hand.
"Yes, Mr. Hanson?' The Judge asked.
"When Miss Perish is done, I would like to make a statement."
He said. The Judge nodded.
"I see nothing wrong with this. Thank you Vanessa." The Judge
said. Vanessa pranced off the stand, and headed back to her seat.
"Miss Delia, what do you have to say about Miss Perish's statement?"
He asked.
"I see nothing wrong with it. She obviously had something to
drink, and therefor was unable to identify the other man with me." Delia
said.
"So, you are admitting to having the conversation Miss Perish
had described?" the Judge asked.
"No. But I am saying, that if Miss Vanessa was unable to identify
the man whom i wsa supposedly speaking to, then how could she be sure of
what she heard?" She said. The Judge nodded.
"Miss Perish, hda yo uhad anything to drink on that night?" The
Judge asked. Vanessa's face went red for a moment, and she nodded.
"A few glasses of cherry, but nothing more." She admitted. Delia
smiled.
"Miss Tefault, you do admit to being in the garden, and being
with a male at the time?" The Judge asked. Delia nodded.
"Yes. I was in the garden for a short period of time during the
ball. But I was with two males, not one." She said. There were several
whispers from the rows.
"Do you care to name those males?" The Judge asked. Delia thought
about this for a moment.
"Not at this present time, your Honor." She said. The Judge nodded.
"Mr. Taylor, you said you had a statement you would like to share."
The Judge said. Taylor nodded, and went to the stand.
"Ah, first of all, I would like to say that I was one of the
males with Miss Delia at the time." He said. Vanessa Perish suddenly looked
very guilty, as if she had known it all along.
"My brother Zachary was also there, but he had indulged in the
drinks supplied at the party, and was not conscious at the time."
"Continue, Mr. Hanson." The Judge said.
"Well, I know for a fact the Delia is not a witch. Our family
has known her for a very long time, and my brothers and I grew up with
her. She has never conducted in any witchcraft, and never will." He said.
"And what is it you were discussing at the time Miss. Vanessa
overheard your conversation?" The Judge asked.
"We were dicussing the future. Plans for my father's business,
and the stars." Taylor answered.
"The stars?" The Judge repeated. Taylor nodded.
"Yes, your Honor. The stars. They really are beautiful, as Delia
pointed out." Taylor said. Zac looked very nervous, and finally stood up.
"You Honor, I really don't think any of this is necessary. Delia
has said she is not a witch, and my brothers and I will speak on her behalf.
Why do you continue to press this?" He asked. The Judge was about to answer,
when the three men that had barged into the Hanson's mansion earlier entered.
"Proof! We have proof!" One of them yelled. There were several
whispers echoing throughout the courthouse, and the Judge slammed his mallot.
"Order! You will present this proof on the stand, Mr. McCray."
The Judge said, and turned to Taylor.
"You may step down, Mr. Hanson." Mr. McCray walked up to the
stand. He had a burlap bag in his hands.
"You Honor, my brothers and I took the liberty of searching through
the Hanson mansion, and we came across this in one of the bedrooms." He
said, and pulled out a leather bined book. The viewers in the courthouse
gasped. Delia slowly closed her eyes.
"It is a book of spells and chants, rituals, and other evil practicings.
But it was not found in Miss. Delia's room, it was found in Mr. Taylor
Hanson's." There were more gasps and whispers from the courthouse. Taylor
shook his head.
"No, you don't understand!" He said. Delia was furious.
"How dare you!" She screamed. The whole house went silent. "You
are all ridiculous! Witch hunts, burnings, do you know haw many innocent
women you have burned? There will be many more to come, I can assure you!
Yes, I am a witch, but not in the kind you fear! And the only reason Taylor
had that bok in his possession was because he had hidden it for my benefit!
Vanessa Perish speaks part of the truth. I did tell Taylor that I was a
witch, and I told him that I was from the future, but I came here because
the year in which I lived in was too much for me to handle. She overheard
some of this, and twisted the facts, because she wants Taylor for herself!"
Delia said. Vanessa's face went bright red.
"No! She is a witch and a liar!" She screamed.
"Vanessa, please be honest. Did you or did you not change the
story that you overheard between Miss. Delia and Mr. Taylor Hanson?" The
Judge asked. Vanessa looked at her father. He looked very angry.
"I changed part of it. I never heard that witch say she had the
powers to do evil." She said slowly.
"Well, than Miss Perish. We sentence you to one month confinement
in your home." The Judge said. Mr. Perish stood up.
"This is an outrage, if it weren't for my daughter, you wouldn't
even know of this witch's wrongdoings!" He yelled. Taylor stood up.
"She hasn't done anything wrong! And I won't let you burn her!"
He yelled back.
"Everyone shut up!" Delia screamed. "I'm leaving now anyway,
so it doesn't matter." She said, and stood up. The McCray brothers stepped
infront of her.
"I don't think so, messenger of Satan. Witches must be burned."
One of them said.
"The court decides that Miss Delia Tefault be burned at the stake,
immediately." He said.
Delia slowly smiled.
"Well, when you find her, please do so." She said. The Judge
raised an eyebrow.
"What are you talking about?" He asked.
"My name is Delia Grey. And you just tried a Delia Tefault."
She said, and pushed her way past the brothers.
"Grey of Tefualt, she is still a witch!" Vanessa screamed. There
was a roar from the crowd. Taylor, Zac and Isaac ran up to her.
"We have to get you out of here, they'll burn you no matter what."
Zac said. Delia nodded, and the four of them ran out of the courthouse,
and into their carriage.
Chapter 14
"You have to go home!" Zac said. Delia shook her head.
"They have my book, and if I call upon it, it will lead them
here." She said. Isaac rolled his eyes.
"It's not like they don't already know we're here!" He said.
Delia shook her head.
"It doesn't work like that. I never worked on a spell that would
get me back home. I never thought I would want to go home." She said. Taylor
ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. Delia couldn't help but
notice him. She had never actually taken the time to appreciate his looks.
Right now, in the moment of pressure, she did.
"Taylor, you're amazing." She murmured. He looked at her surprised.
"What?" He asked. She blinked several times, and looked away.
"Nothing. I guess the only way to be safe is for me to leave."
She said. Zac shook his head.
"You can't go. We'd miss you too much." He said, and whispered.
"Taylor would miss you." She blushed, and shook her head.
"No, I have to go." She said. Taylor turned to face them.
"There's only one way to get you out of here." He said. Ike raised
his eyebrows.
"Tay..." He started. Taylor shook his head.
"No. Ike, we're going to have to take her with us." He said.
"Can we do that?" Zac asked. Taylor shrugged.
"Ask Hades." He suggested. Ike closed his eyes.
"Hades, lord of the underworld, I call upon thee." He said. There
was a great boom, and the floor ripped in half. Delia nearly fell in, but
Taylor caught her just in time.
"Thank you." She breathed.
"No problem." He said. For a moment, his eyes were locked on
hers, and he noticed for the first time how mesmerizing they were. What
timing. He thought, We're being followed by a witch hunt, and I'm fantasizing
about a girl I barely know! This is nuts...
"You called?" A booming loud voice asked. It made what was left
of the house tremble.
"Yes, Hades. We need to go home now." Zac said. Taylor was still
holding onto Delia, but she made no move to have him let go.
"And you wish to take Delia with you?" He said, making a statement
more than a question.
"Yes." Taylor said.
"Very well." Hades said.
"So, it's no problem or anything?" Ike asked.
"It was seen. This is part of what is planned for you three.
Delia is now a part of that plan." Hades voice boomed. Taylor nodded.
"We'll get your book back." He whispered. Delia nodded.
"Yes, Delia will need her book if you are to win against the
Evil." Hades said.
"Evil?" Delia squeaked.
"Yes. But that will be explained at another time. Your book is
here." Suddenly, Delia's book of Shadows appeared, and she grabbed onto
it.
"Thank you." She whispered. There was a loud bang.
"It is time to go back now." Hades said. The brother's nodded,
and began to chant. Delia couldn't understand what they were saying, but
she wanted to help. She used all of the energy she had gained while meditating,
and used it to invision herself travelling through time with Taylor at
her side. There was a bright flash, and then they were gone.
Chapter 15
"Hello?!" Delia called out into the blackness. There was only
her echo. She had no idea where she was, and the only answer she could
come up with was that she was lost in time.
"Taylor!" She screamed. Only her echo answered. Everywhere she
turned it was blackness.
"You are here." A voice said. She turned around, but could not
find the source.
"Who are you?" She demanded.
"Who are you?" The voice repeated back to her.
"I'm Delia. Who are you?"
"Well, Delia. You have some explaining to do, don't you?" The
voice said.
"Where's Taylor?" She asked.
"He's with Hades. They're talking about the great Evil. You're
going to learn about it too. Ares is their teacher." The voice said. Delia
had come to realize that the voice was female.
"And who are you?" Delia asked.
"Guess." The female said. Delia racked her brain in Greek mythology.
There were a lot of Goddess', which one would want to talk to her?
"Um, Hera?" She asked. The voice almost laughed.
"Yeah, right. Guess again."
"Aphrodite?"
"That wuss? No way. Think harder!" The voice demanded. Delia
snapped her fingers.
"Pallas Athene!" She said.
"Ding ding ding! We have a winner!" The voice said.
"So, why are you here?" Delia asked.
"I'm going to teach you how to fight." Athene told her. Delia
raised an eyebrow.
"You're going to teach me how to fight? Why do I need to learn
this by myself? Why cna't I learn with Taylor, and Zac and Ike?" Delia
asked.
"Because, they will distract you. You'll get to see them soon.
Now, try to do something to make me appear. I want to see your power."
Athene ordered. Delia thought the request was useless, because she didn't
have her book.
"Where's my book of Shadows?" Delia asked.
"Safe. Now do it." Athene ordered. Delia closed her eyes. She
had no idea how this was going to work, she didn't have any herbs, insense,
not even a candle! She tried non the less. First she used what little strength
she had less, and invisioned a woman. A woman with strength unmatched by
few. She wasn't pretty, but was beautiful in her own way. She had glowing
chestnut hair, and bright green eyes. It reminded Delia of her mother.
Delia had no idea why she thought of her mother, but it seemed fitting.
Then she thought of Athene being infront of her. Delia opened her eyes,
and a woman started to materialize infront of her. She was wearing armor,
but it wasn't flashy. Only a sword, and arm plates. Delia was very proud.
"Impressive." Athene murmured. She looked exactly like Delia
had invisioned.
"Do you really look like this?" Delia asked. Athene smiled.
"For now, Delia, I look like whomever you want me to." She said.
Delia nodded.
"I understand, I think."
"There's a lot you don't understand, but it will all come soon.
Very soon." Athene said.
The End.
Part two coming soon!!!
