Earring
By athene_girl

Author's Note:
I wrote this after I heard that Taylor Hanson got a earring....I heard from his own words in a Yahoo! chat that it is in the cartalidge of his ear, and I've seen a pic of it too. But.....if for any reason that information is false...then I'M SORRY! oki doki...read on and enjoy

"Ouch!" Taylor Hanson gingerly touched his ear for the fiftieth time that day. It was red and sore.
"Stop it Tay. You're going to make it worse." His older brother Isaac warned. Taylor wrinkled his nose.
"I can't help it Ike. It feels weird." He said, and once again touched the ring around the cartalidge of his right ear.
"Tay!" Isaac groaned. "That's pissing me off. Quit it!"
"Sor-ry!" Taylor muttered. Zac smirked, then remembered something.
"Hey, Tay? Do you remember what the lady in the earpiercing place said? It really freaked you out." He asked. Taylor froze. Of course he remembered.
"Uh, I dunno. I asked for the gold ring with the ruby on it, and she looked at me funny, and said that I couldn't handle it.  I rolled my eyes, and said just gimme the earring. She sighed, but before handing it to me she whispered, 'Ruby blood earring, tears will fall for this', and that was it." Taylor was surprised at how quickly the whole account came to him.
    "Weird." Zac muttered.
"So, she didn't want you to buy it, and you did?" Isaac asked. Taylor nodded. "Tay, man, you should've listened to her. I think she knows what she's talking about. Next time we're in New York, we should go back there." Taylor rolled his eyes.
    "Whatever Ike."

That night, Taylor had amazingly terrible dreams. Everyone of them had a ruby covered in blood involved. He awoke in a cold sweat. His ear felt like it was on fire. He rushed to the washroom, and looked in the mirror. His ear was all red, and it seemed like...no. It couldn't be....could it? To Taylor, it looked like the earring had tightened during his sleep, and was now almost welded to his ear. He touched it, but recoiled his hand in pain.  It was much too hot.
"What the-? Tay? What's wrong?" A voice asked from the doorway. It was Isaac. Taylor whirled around, and tried to cover his ear with his long blonde locks of hair. Isaac wasn't fully awake, and his brown eyes were squinting in the bright bathroom light.
"Nothing, Ike, I'm okay. See ya." Taylor muttered, and went back to their room. Isaac followed.
"Why are you hiding your ear? It isn't all puss filles, is it? Oh, gross Tay. I knew you couldn't take care of it." Ike's face twisted into a look of disgust.
"No Ike. I'm fine. Goodnight." Taylor said, and pulled his blue bed covers up over his head.
"Fine see you in the morning Tay." Isaac said, and went up to the top bunk. Pretty soon, the only sound that could be heard was that of Zac's gentle snoring.

This time, the blood red ruby was in his hands.
Taylor had gotten used to the continuing dreams that had plagued his sleep. All though he had become withdrawn, and wore his hair over his ears, no one had seen anything of the reby earring for almost a week. Isaac and Zac were curious as to what was enforcing their brother's odd behavior. None of this was on Taylor's mind though, as he yet again dreamed of the bloody ruby. He could feel the heat between his fingers, and the immense pain was putting welt marks onto his hands. He was unaware of the two figures slowly approaching his bed while he slept. He did not see the larger one's hand move to brush his hair away. Isaac stifled a gasp.
"Oh my God..." Zac murmured. The ruby earring had become a part of Taylor's ear. Taylor's eyes flashed open. His two brothers stepped back. None of them said anything for a moment.
"Guys? What are you doing?" Taylor finally asked.
"Tay, your ear. That earring is stuck to it." Isaac saud, Taylor gave him a confused look.
"Whatever Ike. Leave me alone. I'm trying to sleep" He said. Taylor had strangely grown to depend on the terrifying dreams. He almost looked forward to them. Taylor closed his eyes.
"Tay, maybe you should go see a doctor about your ear. It looks really bad." Zac said. Taylor's eyes opened once again. But these weren't the blue eyes his brothers and family had grown to love and trust, these eyes had a fure burning beneath them.
"I said I want to go to sleep. Leave me alone." Taylor growled. Isaac and Zac slowly stepped back even farther.
"Tay? Are you okay?" Isaac asked. Taylor snickered.
"I've never ben better." He hissed. Fangs started to protrude from his once normal canines, and his lips curled back in a menacing snarl. He lunged at Zac, and tackled him to the floor. Isaac ran out of the room to get his parents. Taylor and Zac struggled on the floor for a moment, until Zac opened his mouth, to reveal a pair of his own deadly teeth.
"Tay! Get off me! Don't be stupid! Zac hissed, and shoved Taylor off of him. Isaac and Mr. and Mrs. Hanson rushed in.
"Taylor! Stop this at once!" Mrs. Hanson ordered. Taylor obeyed and sat down on his coffin.
"Mom, the earring's made him blood thirsty again!" Zac said, and stood up. His long canines slipped back to their regular size.
"Taylor, we've told you time and time again that we don't wat eachother, and we don't eat other humans." Mr. Hanson told his son. Taylor looked at the floor.
"But, dad! I had dreams! Dreams of blood...red blood, you know how red always makes everything pretty. And the blood tasted so good! Why can't I have just a little bit?" Taylor pleaded. Mr. Hanson shook his head.
"No. The time when vampires and humans were enemies is gone. We are but the last of our kind, Taylor. If we were to feed off humans then it would be known that vampire's still exist, and it would be traced to us, through our heritage. We've adapted to be able to live in the sun...soon, we won't even need blood." He explained.
"Taylor, you've always had that blood lust." Isaac said. "You always stare at people's necks, listening to their heartbeats." Taylor stood up.
"I am true to what I am, and the ruby has shown me how glorious it can be. I have tasted sweet human blood in my dreams, and I shall taste it in reality!" He vowed. "You are a disgrace, Isaac. A disgrace!" He screamed.
"Taylor, we have all the plasma we need, and the shots work perfectly, none of us feel the need to feed, why do you?" Mrs. Hanson asked.
"I want to have human blood. It was so sweet." Taylor said, and slowly turned to the window.
"Taylor! No!" Mr. Hanson called after him. Taylor ignored his father, and jupmed the two stories to the ground. He landed gracefully, and ran off into the night. Zac sighed.
"What do we do now?" He asked.
"We wait until morning." Mr. Hanson said, his voice grim.

The next morning, Taylor Hanson snuck back into his house. Most of the family was already up and busily scurrying around. He slowly went into the kitchen. His mother was preparing pancakes.
"Hello Taylor." She said without turning around. She knew it was him, she could smell him. Taylor sat down at the table.
"Mom, could we have my earring removed please?" He asked quietly. His mother nodded.
"You're father has already booked the tickets to New York. We'll have it done by the same lady that pierced it for you. She knew, as you might of guessed." Mrs. Hanson said. Taylor nodded. Mr. Hanson walked in, with the morning's paper in his hand. He tossed it infront of Taylor. The paper landed on the forn page. The headline was written in bold, black ink.

GIRL FOUND DEAD. NECK PUNCTURED BY TWO
CIRCULAR WOUNDS. VAMPIRE HUNT IS BEING ISSUED.

Taylor looked at the headline and a school photo of the girl. He was confused. That wasn't the one. He heard the front door slam, and Zac walked in. He had a drop of blood coming from the corner of his mouth. Taylor looked at him, his jaw dropped.
"Well? What did you expect? You made it sound so good, Tay. Remember, red makes everything beautiful!" Zac said, and smiled, showing off his pearly white fangs. Taylor put his head in his hands and wept.
    "I'm sorry...." He whimpered.

The End.
