"The Wait, The Impatience, The Excuse"
by Jessica Sayer

I wait so long to hear my phone ring To hear that she is on her way To hear she'll be here to once again sing But she is late and may not be O-kay She worries me as I wait So impatient looking out the window Hoping she did not faint Watching the clock tick away slowly, so Oh where is she She is never late I have her cookies and tea Out already to be ate I hate the wait I want it to stop Then I see a saint It was not a cop She finally was here I'd like to hear her excuse Something about being somewhere I didn't care, she had a phone she could have used Oh look what my mother has done to me She has gotten me all upset I bet you were thinking, to see A child, but let's not fret About the little things! This is for mother, who put me through what I put her through.
