This is, by the way, how memory works, mainly due to the rule of life that if anything can be incredibly irritating, it will be. Your memory sits there, all smug and omniscient, occasionally showing you the corner of a bigger picture you can't see, but dashing it away before you can get a good look at it. If it wasn't for this evil quirk of memory, life would be so much better, we'd all have passed our exams, and we'd never get halfway down the road to the shops and not be able to remember what we went out to get.
