Women's Issues

Canada (which is the country most well known to me) for the most part is working very hard at bringing women's issues to the forefront. Of all the countries of the world, Canada's position on most human rights is great, with a couple areas needing a lot more attention. Canadians cannot become complacent regarding human rights and must continue to keep the focus on improvement.

Issues of civil rights, personal rights, work related rights, political rights ... all are equally important and equally devastating if you do not have them.

So as I share how I feel about rights of women, the order of topics within my discussion has no bearing on what I think is most important.

Neither gender is better than the other. Historically many many men supported women in their struggle for independence, recognition and attainment of their rights to fair wages, healthy self-esteem, recognition as persons and equality issues of all kinds. Many men also work continuously in re-educating their brothers, fathers, sons and male friends that domestic violence is not a tolerable social behaviour. I have no complaints about the majority of "man"kind, just the unhealthy ones.

Violence is rampant in our societies and hopefully will never become so insidious that it is an acceptable way of life. Women can also batter, abuse and act in a violent manner. Violence is not a gender specific malady, nor an age specific, nor a race specific one. Violence, like human rights infractions, racism, genocide and sexism, must diligently be acted against.

One very important social grace that is missing in our world is politeness. If we all were just a smidgen more polite to each other, imagine the wrongs that would instantly disappear.

I believe that honesty and information are crucial to our well being. The more information available; the more realistic, informed and sustainable the decisions made will be. The more honest we can be with ourselves and others, the more healthy we all become. To this end, I will be trying to put a page together that offers respectful, classy, and intellectual information on some of the issues (relating specifically to women and/or not) that I feel need the most attention in our world.
