The Tongue of the Baatezu

by Colin 1996

The tongue of the baatezu is one of bewildering complexity. The sounds made by the speaker often appear to bear no relation to each other, instead sounding like a combination of a barking dog, the squeal of slate and steel, eloquent verse, and the subtle smell of hatred. Of course, that's a combination that varies, depending on the speaker and what's being said.

Some say that there's a caste system for the language, as well... that just as the baatezu have hierarchies in their race, so they have hierarchies in their language.

Naturally, the dominant tongue of Baator is one of order. If at any times it appears jagged or discordant, a body can be sure that the phrase or phrases being uttered will resolve themselves in some form of order before the conversation is concluded -- and that often leads people to believe that the baatezu are even more manipulative and canny than they're given credit for.
