favourite things title

This page is where I am compiling for... what? Posterity? I don't know... things that seem to make life more worthwhile! Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, packages tied with string... you know the ditty. You can't really comment on this stuff, or contribute really, because these are MY favourite things and not yours. (See title at top of browser to verify this.) But if you would like to nod in agreement, e-mail me. Onward ho.

Music I like to think of myself as a person who likes everything, but then I am lying. I really dislike most rap, metal, country, and easy listening stuff. I am still trying to figure out how "easy" describes a quality like listening. I don't exactly find some music is difficult or strenuous to listen to... Artists I like to listen to in particular are U2, Pearl Jam, The Tragically Hip, Sarah McLachlan, Prodigy, Dave Matthews Band, Tori Amos, Treblecharger, Gandharvas, Ashley MacIsaac, Sloan, and lots more. I also love 80's music, it's just too cool. Hmmm.... in a similar vein, I don't know what I'd do without the Muppets and everyone on Sesame Street. Wouldn't be able to count, I guess. Here's a cool, cool link to a site that's got all the lyrics to your favourite Sesame Street songs.

The last cd I bought was The Tragically Hip's Phantom Power. The best song on the whole thing by far is Bobcaygeon. Every time I listen to it I get this picture in my head of some lonely guy in a cafe. Along some Ontario highway, looking out a rainy window. Either that or driving through rain by yourself. It just seems like a "rain" song. One of those long rains where you really reflect on everything around you and you come out of it feeling wiser and a bit happier. Yes, I'm on crack.

Books Summer is when I do my best "junk" reading. Glossy magazines (oooOOh shiny!), bad horror books, the cereal box. I also re-read books I have liked. I don't know, I'm just not a summer reading person. Some books I have read and recommend include: She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. The Bible Code is QUITE interesting, borderline freaky. Deep End of the Ocean is great, couldn't put it down (it even came to camp with me last summer) and I've always liked Margaret Atwood's Wilderness Tips, Good Bones, and Cat's Eye. Yay Canadian literature. Another goodie is The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. Not Canadian, but still good... despite the terrible handicap of not being Canadian.

Edible things Not that there is any point in sharing this information, but... I love grape lifesavers! And Tara's LEGO CANDY, and Taco Bell! I couldn't last more than a week without Tim Horton's, garlic bread, carrots, Caesar salad or tea! Peanut butter, whipped cream, grapefruit (not all together of course)... Anything fried and bad for you. Cherries. "Juicy Pear" Jelly Belly beans. Chocolate, cinnamon hearts, and cherry Bazooka Joe gum. Bagels from the Ottawa Bagel Shop. I also miss Bonkers Candy, Pink Elephant Popcorn and the orange "fruit" flavour of Trident gum. Does anyone else remember orange Trident gum? It just sort of disappeared a long time ago. Yeah, I have a sweet tooth. So?

Movies Along with the rest of the entire human population, I am pretty pumped for Titanic's release. Hmm, what else... well, you gotta love cheesy 80's action flicks... and anything with Audrey Hepburn in it. I won't list EVERY movie I love here, but I definitely recommend watching these:

The Breakfast Club ........... Strange Brew
Forrest Gump Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory
Dances With Wolves The (original) Shaggy Dog
Grease Fried Green Tomatoes
ET The Sound of Music
The Ewok Movie The Shawshank Redemption
The Muppet Movie The Neverending Story
The Princess Bride Clue
Rudy Anything with Indiana Jones in the title
Psycho (the original) Anything with Monty Python in the title
Breakfast at Tiffany's True Lies
"National Lampoon's" any-type-of-vacation The Saint

Misc Other stuff that makes me happy: sUmMeR! drinking tea. the jeans that just get better the more I wash them. silly candy with the girls (i.e.; glow-in-the-dark gum hunts, Power Poppers, Watermelon Bubblicious and that hamburger gum *LoL*, Barbie paraphernalia.) the word "paraphernalia". sunshine! reminiscing things. the good old saturday night live. ripping things. rainbows. the victory dance! sweet old movies. (rowdy) bus trips. scratch n' sniff stickers. being Canadian. crêpe parties. going nuts, bonkers, flying off the handle. getting funny pictures developed. that new car smell. soccer and its related activities (like mud-puddle-jumping). flora. squishy photo-booths. just being ALIVE makes me happy. well, most days anyway.
