London 1999 Diary

Wed., Dec. 15, 1999, 6:30 PM

I just spent some time in Haydes Park and saw the Serpentine. I would have liked to see it when it's light out though. Saw the Marble Arch, that had been pointed out to me briefly yesterday.

(Quote from my tour yesterday:
"It's called the Marble Arch. Look! It's all archy and it's made of marble. That's probably why they call it the marble arch."
"It's the marbliest arch I've ever seen!")

Now I'm in the lobby of the new hotel, waiting for Dad, who has not checked in yet.

What to write about? Initial impression of London? Despite the fact that I've been here for two days, I've seen just about nothing. However, from what little I've seen, it reminds me of a modern, overdone version of Old Montreal. I know it's an odd thing to compare it to, but it's the only reference I have.

Travel tiredness is starting to kick in, I can feel it. Despite the fact that I'm having fun here, I'd like to be home and see my friends. Or, better yet, have my friends and family here! : )

There were so many beautiful things at the Museum, though! I was funny: as I was walking past a little boy and his father, the little boy said he's like to own all "the treasure". I think that would be nice, having the treasures of the museum distributed. Then again, if they did that, I wouldn't be able to see them for free (or almost -- damned expensive strudel!), so I suppose it's all right.

Ah! Dad's here. I'll write more later.
