Caroline was the third child and the first daughter in Nathan's second family with his wife Mary Ann.
Birth
Reference #032582 in 1882 of the Ontario Birth Archive records the birth of a daughter. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Caroline Birmingham (nee Sanborn) in Crosshill.Name: Carolina When: 25 March 1882 Where: Waterloo Sex: Female Father: Nathan Uttley, Engineer, Waterloo Mother: Mary Birmingham When Reg: 17 April 1882 Doctor: Dr. BinghamCaroline, age 9, is included in the family of Nathan and Mary in the 1891 Census (Waterloo), and again at age 19 in the 1901 Census (Waterloo).
Her father's obituary in October 1903 tells us that "Carrie" was living at home with her parents and two younger siblings, Jonathan and Mary (Lena).
Marriage

- A search of the local papers for a reference to the marriage has produced nothing.
The obituary of her mother in February 1920 places "Carrie" and her husband in Toronto. Mrs. Fred Kalbfleisch is still in Toronto when her older brother Peter dies in February 1944. She is not listed among the survivors when her older half-brother John R. dies in November 1950. The picture of Edna and Dorothy Kalbfleisch is from the family photo album of Mae and Bea Uttley. The back reads:
Dorothy E. Kalbfleisch died February 6, 1911 in Toronto (Ontario Death Archive of 1911, reference #001724) so the picture can be dated to the winter of 1909-10.
