The passing of Ellen was reported in the K-W Record on Thursday November 24, 1933 (page 2) and in the Elmira Signet of Thursday November 30, 1933 (page Two) with the same obituary. The Elmira Signet read:
OBITUARY ----- Mrs. Thomas H. Hall Word of the death of Mrs. Thomas H. Hall at her home in Salem, N.Y., was received by relatives in Elmira last Thursday. Mrs. Hall, who was in her 67th year, was born in Elmira, being the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Uttley. About twenty-five years ago she was married to Thomas Hall of Millbank. They resided in Elmira until fifteen years ago when they moved to Vermont, later moving to Salem, N.Y., where the death occurred after an illness of a couple of weeks.
Surviving are her husband, a stepson and stepdaughter and one sister, Mrs. Menno Wilfong of Elmira. The funeral was held in Salem on Saturday.Notes:
- Thomas H. Hall had two surviving children from a previous marriage.
- The death of Ellen's mother Matilda in 1918 records that Matilda had four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ellen's sister Annie had four surviving children in 1918: Frank, Charles, Tillie and Myrtle. The great-grandchild would have been the child of Frank or possibly Tillie. The step-grandchildren were not included in the count.
- The same obituary for Matilda reports that Ellen was living in Elmira at the time. This is consistent with the obituary.
- Records of the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid (OCFA) do not shed any light on the death of Ellen or her husband. We must look to Salem in New York state as the solution to this question.
