Reference #036354 in 1886 of the Ontario Birth Archive records the birth of a daughter. She was named after her mother.Name: Mary Ann Delina When: 14 July 1886 Where: Waterloo Sex: Female Father: Nathan Uttley, Night Watchman, Waterloo Mother: Mary Ann Sanborn When Reg: 29 July 1886 Doctor: Dr. Webb"Delina", age 4, is included in the family of Nathan and Mary in the 1891 Census (Waterloo), and as "Mary M." at age 14 in the 1901 Census (Waterloo).
Her father's obituary in October 1903 tells us that "Mary" was living at home with her parents and two older siblings, Jonathan and Carrie (Caroline).
Marriage
Lena married Archie Wildfong in Niagara Falls in 1907. Magwood When: July 3, 1907, Niagara FallsFrom information in the City Directory of 1912, the couple is living on Duke Street in Waterloo at the home of Lena's mother and Archie is employed as a labourer. By 1919 the Wilfong's own a house at 40 Bridgeport Road, Archie is employed at Doering Trunk Company and Lena's older brother Jonathan lives with them as a border. Archie then works in the rubber industry in town -- the Dominion Tire Company in 1923 and Canadian Goodrich in 1925 as a tire pressman. In 1927 Archie has left Waterloo for Michigan leaving Lena in the house on Bridgeport Road and Jonathan as a border. The next year Lena leaves as well to join Archie in Michigan.
Obituary
From the K-W Record, Kitchener, ON, on Friday August 29, 1941, page 19:
MRS. ARCHIBALD WILDFONG Mrs. Archibald Wildfong, 54, died at her residence in Flint, Mich., yesterday following an illness of eight weeks. Mrs. Wildfong was formerly Miss Marian Delena Uttley of Waterloo. In 1907 she was married to Archibald Wildfong in Waterloo and moved to Flint in 1927. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
Surviving are her husband, three sons, Carl of Detroit, Frederick and Lloyd of Flint, one daughter, Mrs. Gerald Taft of Flint, three brothers, Abraham, Peter and John Uttley of Kitchener, three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Kalbfleisch of Toronto, Mrs. Isobella Hohner of Stratford and Mrs. Albert Wolfe of Flint. Two grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Reigle Funeral Home, Flint. Burial will be made in Sunset Hills cemetery, Flint.
- Of the three sisters named, only Lena's older sister Caroline was a full sister. Bella was a half-sister that was brought into the family when Nathan remarried. Henrietta Warele (Mrs. Albert Wolfe) was Lena's niece who had been adopted by Nathan after her mother Mary Jane died in 1901.
- No half-siblings from Nathan's first family are mentioned.
